Description

Dr. Simon Stow, Senior Director of Oracle EMEA, will deliver a short overview of Oracle's roadmap and strategy on Grids as well as an overview on their involvement in standards bodies and key projects. Oracle believe that, even though focus and priorities of scientific and enterprise grids differ, a convergence to the full Grid vision exist, collaboration and partnership between the industrial and scientific world is key to this end.

Summary

Although some differences do exist between the scientific approach to Grid and the
commercial one, there is a general consensus on the Grid concepts, architecture and
vision. Today challenges and drivers in business revolve around complex and
large-scale, distributed problems where large numbers of independent organisational
entities at different locations are involved. Business-related infrastructure and
service requirements have indeed some commonalities with e-Science’s needs.

The Oracle roadmap to the full Grid adoption takes also these components into
account. Oracle’s involvement in standards bodies and R&D/Scientific projects prove
the mutual benefit of partnering for both industry and science.
