LCG external s/w
---
New software installations in /afs/cern.ch/sw/lcg/external
qt 4.4.2
cppunit 1.10.2_p5
castor 2.1.7-15
doxygen 1.5.6
gccxml 0.9.0_20080909
gcc 4.3
---
The whole external s/w package suite has been re-compiled natively for gcc 4.3.2 on 32 and 64 bit. The builds for gcc 4.3 in the LCG/AA nightlies have started, for now in the "dev" slot for slc4_ia32_gcc43, probably other slots, platforms will follow. We were forced to move to a new gccxml 0.9.0_20081002 for this compiler (also for VC9) which is currently run only in the "dev" slot. Once we have sorted out all problems we could move gccxml down into the other slots.
SLC5
---
Virtual machines have been installed for slc5 32 and 64 bit on the lxbuild116 xen node. We will start building the nightlies for this platform soon. In connection with the move to slc5 SPI would like to propose a unification of tag names, i.e. the strings specifying the os/platform/compiler, which are currently different for LCG/AA, LHCb and Atlas. A proposal for this will be circulated soon.
VC9
---
The porting of the LCG/AA s/w stack on VC9 is ongoing. After manual checking the VC9 builds are now introduced into the nightly builds aswell. Also for this platform we were forced to move to the new gccxml version. The builds are also executed on a virtual machine running on lxbuild116. At the moment this virtual machine is extremely slow, we have to see probably together with FIO how this can be improved (e.g. hardware virtualizaiton turned on in the BIOS?).
There was a problem with the "WIN32" macro which is used in some code for dictionary building, this macro is now passed explicitly to the gccxml step and the problem should be fixed. Other macros which were introduced for the VC9 builds are forcing the "non debug" STL implementation for builds as we are usually compiling in debug mode but against non-debug runtime and external libraries.
CernVM
---
Two more instances of CernVM (32 and 64 bit) have been installed in the lxbuild116 xen node. These shall be used to run the nightlies test suites from a slc4 build.
Round table

CMS
---
- Planning to use 5.21.04 or latest 5.20.x to have a preview on the upcoming ROOT production version. At the moment the nightly builds dev slot is unstable, Stefan suggests to wait until these problems have settled and CMS can give it a try with a global tag - probably next week.
ROOT
---
- 5.21.04 will be released today.
LHCb
---
- Hubert reported that the currently used cmt version is very slow. We should move to a later version - we will give it a try in the nighlies "dev", ie. move to cmt v1r20p20080703.
Persistency
---
- Atlas started using frontier client. Several issues were found with this. A new frontier client should be released soon.
- FrontierAccess will also contain a bug fix - this will be put into the nightlies.
