Practical Information

Venue location

The venue is the Physics Department main building, at Schellingstrasse
4, downtown Munich (Universität area). I attach a link to the google map
page
https://www.google.de/maps/place/Schellingstra%C3%9Fe+4,+80799+M%C3%BCnchen/@48.1493357,11.5811124,18z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x479e75eb5829c7d7:0x4e01bb6e24b187c?hl=en

Building

The photo shows the building from outside (taken
from Schellingstrasse with a view to the St. Ludwig church at the
Ludwigstrasse). The building of interest is the red one at the very left
of the picture

Computer room

The course will take place in the CIP-1 computer room

To find your way to the room, once in the building please follow the plan

The main entrance is exactly above the name of
the street "Schellingstrasse". Then you have to go right. The entrance
of CIP-1 is next to the elevator. It is very easy to find and we will
have some signs.

Getting there

By public transportation one has to reach the UBahn station
Universität
or the bus station Universität (UBahn map attached)

https://indico.cern.ch/event/442634/picture/9.png

1. Coming from the airport: Take S1/S8 (there is only one direction,
towards downtown, as the airport is a terminal station).  Change at
Marienplatz (the old city center and the townhall square) to the U6
direction north (Fröttmaning/Garching/Garching Forschungszentrum) or U3
direction Olympiazentrum.
Exit the train at the station Universität. The
exit is at Ludwigstrasse and (depending on the exact exit - one should
look for the one indicating Schellingstrasse) about 3-4min on foot to
the venue

2. Coming from the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), one has to take
any S line to Marienplatz and then change to U6 or U3 and follow the
above instructions. Alternatively, one can also take from the main
station the U4 direction Arabellapark or U5 direction Neuperlach, change
at Odeonsplatz to U3/U6 and follow the instruction from point 1

- There is also the official website of MVV (Munich's Public
Transportation):

http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/homepage/index.html

In the Journey planner, one can define the place of departure (anywhere
in Munich) and the destination (again anywhere in Munich), in terms of
address, UBahn/SBahn station, bus stop, important point and get exact
direction and prices

Public Transportation

- Public transportation in Munich is expensive and every now and then
they increase the prices even more. The idea of the system is to
encourage people to buy more longterm cards. A single ride with the
UBahn for more than 2 stations costs 2.70Euros. A single ride for one or
two stations 1.30Euros. Unless people are within walking distance or up
to two stations away, I would suggest buying a weekly card for two rings
(it depends of course where their hotel is located). It costs
14.10Euros, which is about the price of 5 single tickets. There are also
more complicated options such as group tickets, but better avoid
confusing people with that.
