At the FIO work plan day in March, it was proposed that we start mirroring the Linuxsoft repository onto the ELFms SWrep in order to allow an easier and ealier testing of the sw.
At this meeting we should decide how frequently we want that mirroring to occur, how we treat the data in the context of the existing cycle test-preprod-prod mechanism already in place
Present: Jan Iven, Matthias Schroder, Andras Horvath, Sophie Lemaitre, Ricardo Silva, Veronique Lefebure
we used to have the "testing" LinuxSoft (LS) AFS repository mirrored onto Swrep but this was stopped because it happened several times that a package was overwritten (with the same version-release number) on the LS rep, causing rpm installation problems on the quattor-managed machines because Swrep had not been updated with the new version
Jan said that he will do his best for such thing not to happen anymore (use of the same version-release number for a different rpm). Under that condition, we can resume mirroring the testing LS rep.
Jan suggested that the mirroring mechanism could itself check that there is no newer version of the packages available on the LS rep. but this does not scale and won't be done.
We propose
to create a new stage in CDB: pretest/ (in addtion to the existing 3 stages test/ preprod/ prod/) where the default templates will reflect the latest package version found in the testing LS rep.
In test/, the default version will reflect the latest package version found in the production LS rep, as it is today.
the flow from test/ to preprod/ to prod/ will stay the same as it is now.
people will be able to subscribe their machines to pretest/ in order to do early tests and report problems to Linux Team
So:
No change to /test /preprod and /prod.
/pretest will have a loadpath = "pretest/, test/, preprod/, prod/"
