Venue:
THE FAST COST WG2 meeting will be held in Tartu, Estonia on December 4, 2015. The meeting venue is the new Physicum building of the Institute of Physics (Füüsika Instituut), Ravila 14c, located approximately 4 km from the city center. The meeting will take place in the auditorium B103.
How to reach Physicum?
There are several ways to reach the Physicum building from Tartu city center (kesklinn in Estonian). One can find a walking route on the map (Fig. on t, but the beginning of December can be cool for a 40 minute walk. Several city busses (No 1, No 3 and No 5) depart from the Kaubamaja bus stop in uphill direction. Get off at Soinaste from bus No 1 and walk 300 m to the institute (Fig. 2). Get off at Tehnoloogiainstituut from bus No 3, and at Nooruse bus stop from bus No 5. You will see the Physicum from these bus stops (Fig. 3). We would recommend busses No 1 and No 5, as No 3 makes a longer loop before getting to the Physicum campus. The city bus ticket costs 1.5 euro and it can be bought from the bus driver. One can also take a taxi which costs approximately 6-8 euro and driving time is 10 -15 minutes depending on traffic.
The working dinner will take place at the Atlantis restaurant. The cost of the dinner (ca 20 EUR) should be covered by each participant.
We would recommend you to book a room at the hotel Dorpat, situated in the city centre next to Tartu coach station, where busses from Tallinn airport arrive. Every participant to the Workshop is invited to book the accommodation by directly contacting the hotel at the email address: info@dorpat.ee and mark the code word FASTCOST in the subject line of the message and/or in the text.
How to reach Tartu?
The most flexible way to reach Tartu is to take a flight to Tallinn and then to go by bus to Tartu. Alternatively, there is a Finnair flight between Helsinki and Tartu once a day.
If you are coming via Tallinn Airport, you should take the direct bus to Tartu (operated by Lux Express). The travel to Tartu takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, and the final bus stop is 100 m from Hotel Dorpat in Tartu centre.
It is advisable to buy the ticket in advance via internet using the T-pilet site. It is also possible to buy the ticket at the ticket machine at the exit of the ground level floor (0-level, one floor below the baggage claim) of Tallinn Airport. The local name for Tallinn airport is Tallinna lennujaam. This station name you have to type in Estonian.
If you have bought your ticket via internet, you have to print the ticket out yourself. You can do this at your home or at Tallinn airport. The ticket machine at ground floor (0-level, one floor below the baggage claim) can print your ticket if you know the ticket number. Printing there is free of charge. Also, it is possible to print your ticket at information desk, but this cost 1 EUR.
Some busses in the evening do not stop at the airport on their way from Tallinn to Tartu; to use these connections, you need to go to Tallinn central bus station. Use the city bus number 2 (direction Reisisadam, leave at 3rd station, Autobussijaam) or a taxi for transfer.
