Accomodation

Lyon has a good capacity of accomodation, but being a touristic destination, it is better to book well in advance.

The IPNL is hosted in the University of Lyon1 Campus, in Villeurbanne, a district north-east of Lyon. Villeurbanne is not far from the city center (3 subway stops from Charpennes to Hotel de Ville, or 20-25 minutes walking throught the nice Tête d'Or park and the docks of the Rhône river). All the hotels listed here are close to the Campus, if instead you want to book a hotel in the center, there are several nice districts that are only 20 minutes away from the Campus by public transportation (metro+tram). We don't provide a list of recommended hotels in the center, as it  would be too long to compile, and you probably should see which best offer you get when you book. On the other hand, before booking, please see the end of this page to be sure you book a hotel that is well connected to the Campus.

For cheap accomondation you can look here:

Here is a list of hotels close to the IPNL:

  • A) Hotel Ibis Styles Lyon Villeurbanne

http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-9012-ibis-styles-lyon-villeurbanne/index.shtml

just outside the Campus, 10 google-maps-minutes walking from IPNL.

  • B) Hotel des congrès

http://www.hoteldescongres.com/

15 minutes walking from the IPNL.

  • C) Hotel IBIS Budget Villeurbanne

http://www.ibis.com/gb/hotel-5087-ibis-budget-lyon-villeurbanne/index.shtml

a bit more far away (20 minutes walking), and mostly practical for people coming by car, as it is just next to the highway exit. The venue is less nice (it's really close to the highway), but the reviews on websites about the hotel itself are not bad (check them out to confirm), and it is probably the cheapest option in the surroundings.

  • D) Students house Residence Arts Campus 1

http://www.resilogis.com/residence/villeurbanne/arts-campus-1/

20 minutes walking from IPNL. This students house guarantees a limited number of available one-person studio (room+bathroom+small kitchen).

You see below a map of the Campus area, with the aforementioned hotels are shown as A, B, C, D.

If instead you prefer to book a hotel in the city center, go ahead, just check that it is well connected to the Campus (check the page "Practical information"). As you see on the map, the subway stop Charpennes is not very far. From there, the line A takes you tho the city center (Hotel de Ville) and the line B takes you towards the Part Dieu railway station. From Charpennes to the IPNL it is 20 minutes walking, so the best option is to take the tram T1 or T4, which connect Charpennes to the University in less than 10 minutes. From the Campus, the trams T1 or T4 can also take you directly to the Part-Dieu railway station.

For more detailed information, the website of the public transportation in Lyon is http://www.tcl.fr/en , but to be honest trying to interact with it and get some useful (even basic) information could be one of the most frustrating and unfruitful experiences of your life (in case you have a logistic question and you don't manage to answer it, don't hesitate to ask the local organisers).
