The Institute for Nuclear Physics (KPH) of Mainz University is operating the CW mictrotron cascade MAMI (Mainzer Mikrotron) for more than 30 years. Since 2012 KPH is also planning a CW multi-turn energy recovery linac MESA (Mainz Energy-recovering Superconducting Accelerator).
In this contribution we will sum up our experience with the klystron based RF-system of MAMI (2.45 GHz and 4.9 GHz)...
A high power amplifier at 80.5 MHz was developed for a linear accelerator system. This amplifier has to hold 100% reflection at all phases and therefore a circulator has to be integrated to protect the transistor of the amplifier pallet from overvoltage breakdown.
