Trigger and Data Reduction at the LHC

Abstract: The LHC detectors have to reduce on-line the 30 MHz event rate to event rates which they can afford to store and process off-line. The architectural choices to achieve several orders of magnitude data reduction while maintaining a high efficiency for the events of interest will be reviewed. Methods employed to monitor the performance of the triggers will be discussed. Detectors are preparing upgrades for a factor ten increase in luminosity. The consequences for their triggers will be shown, and ideas how to adapt, or for LHCb radically change, the triggers will be presented. Detector Seminar webpage Organizer: Ferdi HAHN / PH-DT
