Abstract:
The LHC detectors have to reduce on-line the 30 MHz event rate to event rates which they can afford to store and process off-line.
The architectural choices to achieve several orders of magnitude data reduction while maintaining a high efficiency for the events of interest will be reviewed. Methods employed to monitor the performance of the triggers will be discussed.
Detectors are preparing upgrades for a factor ten increase in luminosity. The consequences for their triggers will be shown, and ideas how to adapt, or for LHCb radically change, the triggers will be presented.
