Pro Release 5.12 status and plans for 5.13/02 50m
News (Rene) ============ Congratulations to Philippe and long/happy life to Alexandra many absents today: 3 at CSC Helsinki) LCG Review 18 September General review for ROOT (Rene) MATH Review + SEAL maintenance Lorenzo PROOF review Fons CINT/Reflex status Axel ? 5.12/00c current last patch to production version see list at:http://root.cern.ch/root/Version51200c-patches.news.html Timur visit (finishes today). A lot of new stuff to visualize legos, surfaces, etc with GL in the pad. See new macros in the tutorials. Request to think about big libs like libCore, libHist, libGui. I/O & Trees (Philippe) ======================= waiting response from Philippe CORE (Fons) =========== - Splitting TRFIOFile and TCastorFile plugins - TSystem interface to machine parameters: - cpu info (type, number of cores, load, etc) - memory (total installed, active, shared, paged, used by current process, etc) - network (10/100/1000 eth, av load, etc) All this is needed for precise monitoring of PROOF workers by MonALISA. It is highly OS dependent. - Plugin manager changes as discussed before (self describing plugins) - Parallel sockets (TPSocket) that work also when only one port in the firewall is open, current version became un-usable due to strict firewall rules enforced the last few years - Class supporting atomic operations needed for efficient (better than mutex locking) reference counting in a multi-threaded environment PROOF ----- - Fix all open bugs found during the ALICE test - Understanding the results obtained during the ALICE test - New time slice based packetizer - Introduction of monitoring interface (need TSystem extensions mentioned above) - Running more ALICE tests - Update the GUI with new features available in the API, allow the GUI to be started on an already running PROOF session, etc. CINT/Reflex (Axel,Stefan) ========================== here are our plans for the dev release Oct 11: no plans for Cint; but reflex will contain the changes we need for the Cint+Reflex merge. We still plan to have old and new Cint available soon after that dev release. Until then, only bug fixes will go into Cint cvs. MATH (Lorenzo) ============== Objectives not achieved for this release: add in mathmore a GSL wrapper class for 1D function minimization, which was present in the SEAL version but was not moved to ROOT. Work is done, just we need to commit in CVS integrate work of Daniel on the line search. Put a new routine in mathcore or mathmore Add new Chi2 test routines for histograms. Objectives for 5.13/04 First prototype of new fitting classes. First prototype of GUI using new fitting classes. Longer term objectives (5.14) consolidation of 5.13/04 (fitting and GUI) Make TF1 using new function interfaces and classes. Start extracting and re-organizing some of the algorithms add UNURAN from the Wien group (see after discussion with them in September) Graphics work package: (Olivier) ====================== * Objectives foreseen for 5.13/02 but not implemented * Basic graphics (O.Couet): - Integration of the M.Demaret (summer student) work on TGraphPolar in 5.13/02. - Investigate the possibility to translate the GS (PostScript) fonts file into TTF file to replace those in $ROOTSYS/fonts. Hopefully this might simplify the introduction of new symbols in TLatex. It may also help to extend the list of available fonts in TText. - The current implementation (done by E.Offermann) of TGraph::Paint in case of low resolution (option L) is, as expected, much faster that the high resolution one (option L9), but has many drawing problems. A preliminary new version has been written (by O.Couet). It works better and is even a bit faster. It is now being tested by the people who reported the problem (D.Buskulic and D.Verkindt). We are waiting their feed-back. This new version need to be consolidated before being put in CVS. In particular the PS output is not yet possible. The consolidation phase will start when we will have the green light from D.Buskulic and D.Verkindt. We have no news yet from D.Buskulic and D.Verkindt. * Embedded GL in TPad (T.Pocheptsov): TGLStackPainter, TGLTGraph2DPainter. * M.Tadel contributions: - "Optimize the redraw requests to viewer when the direct rendering is used and no scene rebuild is required." is somewhat done ... meaning that there is some level of caching implemented, but it does not have object-level granularity. * Objectives for 5.13/04 scheduled for October 11: * Embedded GL in TPad (T.Pocheptsov): - Make working the new stuff on Mac. - TGLStackPainter, TGLTGraph2DPainter. - Slices on TH3. - Fix the problem with "Quit Root" on the GL viewer. * Basic graphics (O.Couet): - Fixe the exclusion zone in TGraph. + some time the zone is not drawn on the right side. + some protection are needed when the Tgraph has two consecutive points equal. + 1st and last point behaves strangely in some cases. - TLegend does not properly extend when a non-standard hight LaTeX construct is added. (savannah 19479). - SetRightMargin() does not work on TH3 drawing. - Problem with Label and Tick mark size on axis with labels defined using SetBinLabel(). - TGraph2D: With option TRI1 the color palette does not follow the same rules as option SURF1 or COL. - Having two ttf fonts and calculating the bounding box using TTF produces wrong result for somefonts. And also (may be): - Possibility to create "in-memory" PostScript buffer from TCanvas. - Text clipping in PS. A text clipped in PS disapear completly Geometry (Andrei/Mihaela) ========================== - For 5.13/02 I think there are no issues that were foreseen but not done, on the opposite, there was in addition the work of Mihaela radionuclides. - For 5.13/04 we have the following objectives: - The work on radionuclides completed with the time evolution of RN populations and computation of activity - New branch g4root that will represent the alpha release of the navigation interface G4-ROOT, being able to demonstrate at least some basic features like: possibility to couple a TGeo geometry with G4 transportation, being able to do some results/timing comparisons G4+TGeo against G4 native for at least some basic example(s). - For 5.14/00: additions and consolidation for geometry GUI's, improvements in g4root interface and (hopefully) integration with g4vmc. GUI (Ilka) ========== *********************************************************** *** Objectives foreseen for 5.13/02 but not implemented *** *********************************************************** 1. GUI classes - all done. 2. GED Editors Changes proposed by Matevz & Alja Tadel under validation testing. Very likely will be present for this release. Main reason: Proposed changes were not ported to geombuilder editor classes. Fixed bugs: - Errors in layout algorithm. - Broken layout and wrong functionality of TH1/2Editors - Broken layout and wrong functionality of TGraphEditor - SegV when OpenGL was in use - GL editor frame was empty and was is outside ******************************************************* *** Objectives for 5.13/04 scheduled for October 11 *** ******************************************************* 1. GUI classes - Menus improvements (chevron button) (in cvs) - Tab keyboard navigation (in cvs) - Fix in button classes related to the emitted signals - Fix in number entry class for real numbers 2. GED Editors - Changes proposed by Matevz & Alja Tadel under validation testing. - TF2/3 editors development is related to the above changes. 3. Fit panel - First prototype can be present (via plug-in manager). 4. GUI Builder: Valeriy Onuchin has provided the list below, but last message from him said clearly that he replaced GUI development by Carrot. Planning (how it was foreseen): - Add missing important widgets: listview, menu bar, tool bar etc. - Create attribute editors for listbox, combobox, tab, tree view, listview etc. - Revision of application functionality (allow GUI building without keyboard interactions) - Include more complex layout managers in the builder Qt Layer: - What will come from Valeri Fine (some GUI classes are not available, porting to Qt)
