ARRIVING IN ZURICH

--- By Plane (Zurich airport)

The Zurich airport (Zürich Flughafen) is directly connected to Zurich main station (Zürich Hauptbahnhof / Zürich HB) through the Zurich suburban train network, the S-Bahn. In the terminal building, follows the railway signs to the underground station. Trains to Zürich leave about every 5/10 minutes during peak periods and the travel time is about 10 minutes. Tickets can be bought directly on the platform at the vending machines (6.80 CHF one way).

Depending on the position of your hotel, it might be more convenient to stop at a different S-Bahn station, or to use the local transportation network (tram/bus station is just outside the airport). For a detailed plan of your ride from/to Zurich airport, we invite you to consult the online timetable of the Zurich transport network (ZVV).

You can also take a taxi (about 100 CHF) to the city center, which might take longer than public transport as the traffic to and from the airport is usually subject to congestion.

--- By Plane (Other airports)

The Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (served by easyjet) is well connected to Zurich HB, the travel time is approximately 90 minutes (ticket price: 38.40 CHF one way). For detailed information, please visit the Swiss railway website (SBB).

--- By Train

There are various international trains connected to Zürich HB. For details see for example the Swiss railway website (SBB).

ZURICH PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The Zurich transport company is the ZVV (Zürcher Verkehrsverbund). On ZVV website you can find all useful information regarding ticket fares, network map and timetables.

Some tips and recommendations:

  • When using trains and public transport, please remember to purchase a ticket before boarding. Tickets are available from vending machines in the halls of train stations or at bus and tram stops.
  • The city centre is within the "zone 110", which counts as two zones. Thus, you should refer to the "1-2 zones" entry when looking at fares. Typically a day pass (“Tageskarte”) is the best option if you are planning two or more rides: it is valid for any number of rides within 24 hours after punching, for the price of two single rides.
  • The Zürich airport is in "zone 121". This means that for a ride from the airport to the city centre (and vice versa) you should refer to "3 zones" fare. This also means that a Tageskarte for the city centre is not valid for a ride to the airport.
  • If you are not familiar with the transportation network, the best option is to query the ZVV online timetable. There, you can directly put in the addresses of your departure/destination points and the system will optimise your ride.

CONFERENCE VENUE

The Invisibles17 Workshop will take place at the main building of University of Zurich, in Rämistrasse 71 (Google Maps).

From most hotels in the inner city of Zurich the workshop location can be reached on foot. You can also take trams 5, 6, 9, 10 or 15 to “ETH/Universitätsspital”. There is the charming “Polybahn” cable car from “Central” to “Polyterrasse” as well. You can plan your ride on the ZVV online timetable.
