From Polish airports to Toruń
a) Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW)
Warsaw Chopin Airport is the largest Polish airport located 265 km away from Toruń. The most convenient way to travel from Warsaw to Toruń is by a train of PKP Intercity, leaving from Warsaw Central Railway Station (Warszawa Centralna) or Warsaw West Railway Station (Warszawa Zachodnia); visit http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en for timetables. A single ticket Warsaw (any station) – Toruń Main Railway Station (Toruń Główny) costs 54 PLN in second class and 71 PLN in first class. The trip lasts from 2.5 to 3 hours.
There are three options to reach one of these two railway stations in Warsaw from the airport:
- by train (recommended!): a fast urban train of Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM) or Koleje Mazowieckie (KM) from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Warsaw West Railway Station (Warszawa Zachodnia); about 20 min, 4 PLN
- by bus: a city bus (line 175) from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Warsaw Main Railway Station (Warszawa Centralna); 30-60 min (depending on traffic), 4 PLN
- by taxi (important: use only licensed taxi services!): a taxi from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Warsaw Main Railway Station (Warszawa Centralna); 20-50 minutes (depending on traffic), 20-30 PLN
b) Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI)
Warsaw Modlin Airport is the second airport in Warsaw, operated mainly by bydget airlines. There is a direct bus connection from this airport to Toruń Bus Station (Dworzec autobusowy); visit https://www.okbus.pl/en/ for timetables. The trip lasts about 3 hours, ticket prices start from 9 PLN. Alternatively it is possible to travel to Toruń by train with a change at Warsaw East Railway Station (Warszawa Wschodnia): first by a train of Koleje Mazowieckie (55 minutes, 19 PLN), then with a train of PKP Intercity (2.5-3 h, 54-71 PLN). Do not use a taxi to reach Warsaw East Railway Station from this airport: it is too far away and the cost would be relatively high!
c) Bydgoszcz Airport (BZG)
Bydgoszcz is located only 50 km from Toruń. The most convenient way to reach Toruń from this airport is to take a bus (line 80) to Bydgoszcz Main Railway Station (Bydgoszcz Główna) and then a local train of Polregio (PR) to Toruń City Railway Station (Toruń Miasto); visit http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en for timetables.
d) Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN) or Poznań Airport (POZ)
Both Gdańsk and Poznań are located less than 200 km from Toruń and have very good train connections (PKP Intercity and Polregio) with Toruń Main Railway Station (Toruń Główny) and Toruń City Railway Station (Toruń Miasto); visit http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en for timetables. To transfer from the airport to the railway station take a fast urban train of Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna (PKM) in Gdańsk or a city bus (line 59) in Poznań.
In Toruń
There is a bus/tram hub named Aleja Solidarności in the center of Toruń. Most of city buses and trams stop there. Both the Institute of Physics and the Old Town (with hotels) are not more than 5-10 minutes of walking from this hub. The best way to reach the hub from Toruń Main Railway Station (Toruń Główny) is to take a city bus (line 12, 13, 14, 22 or 27). It takes about 10 minutes and costs 2.80 PLN. Tickets are available inside most buses, they are also sold by a newspaper stall at the station.
Toruń City Railway Station (Toruń Miasto) is located 15-20 minutes of walking from the Institute of Physics and very close to the Old Town. Toruń Bus Station (Dworzec autobusowy) is even closer to the Institute of Physics (5 minutes of walking); the Old Town is also nearby.
Licenced taxi services (eg. +485619191, …19192, …19194, …19195, …3333333) cost not more than 5 PLN for “door shutting” and about 2.50 PLN per 1 km. The prices go up in night hours and during weekends.
