Approval of minutes

The minutes of the LIU-PSB WG #208 were approved.

Communications

LIU-PT meetings

  • The Chamonix summary and report are now available.
  • The Project Team Meeting and Beam Performance Meeting are now alternating and happen every other week.
  • Now showstopper has been found concerning the LS2 planning, except for the PSB period 4L1 for which the updated layout drawing is needed (after the machines are closed).

Cost and schedule review

  • In view of the cost and schedule review, happening the 26th-28th of March 2018, a rehearsal has been scheduled for the 16th of March 2018. The PSB talk will be 30’ + 30’.

LIU Beam Performance Meeting

  • The outcome of the Linac4 RR was presented during the last meeting.
  • An EDMS document has been prepared to detail the specifications of the Linac4 expected performance.

Follow-up of open actions

T. Dobers (2018-02-06): Produce the tilt measurement tool and perform measurements on spare / future magnets.

  • Needs to be contacted.

M.Calviani/I.Lamas (2018-02-15): Prepare the ECR for the PSB scraper/absorber describing both the dismantling of the current equipment and the installation of the new one.

  • Action extended to 2018-03-20.

I. Efthymiopoulos (2018-02-20): Make a list of starting points of the transfer lines to be sent for approval in an EDMS document.

  • T. Birtwistle commented that there are some parts missing and that the document is now being edited by T. Dobers. Action extended to 2018-03-06.

MD planning and priorities for 2018 (Fanouria Antoniou and Simon Albright)

The allocation of MD blocks for 2018 was presented by topic, here we report only the highest priority MD:

Injection (14 MD blocks)

  • Injection synchronization.
  • Validation of the LLRF interlock.

Longitudinal (69 MD blocks)

  • B-Train commissioning and reliability run.
  • Studies high intensity beam splitting with the Finemet cavity.

Transverse (>90 MD blocks)

  • Beta beating measurement at 160 MeV and using extraction kicker to excite the beam (dedicated MD time needed).
  • Study of the emittance preservation along the PSB cycle.
  • Commissioning of the new wire scanner.
  • New transverse feedback testing.
  • Beam based measurements of impedance

Extraction (>8 MD blocks)

  • Transfer line re-matching.
  • Testing the new BTM optics.
  • Test the 3 + 3 injection in the PS to produce LHC25ns beam (being able to exclude one ring in case of failure).
  • Extraction at 160 MeV (dedicated MD time needed).

Comments

  • G. P. Di Giovanni proposed to have another presentation in the future as a follow-up, to see the evolution of the MDs. He also suggested to send the information presented today to G. Rumolo and H. Bartosik.

AOB

Follow-up on the Installation Readiness for LS2 (Julie Coupard)

  • The Installation Readiness for LS2 document needs to be completed for the cost and schedule review, even if updates come later. Equipment readiness needs to be coherent with its fabrication and preparation.
Comments
  • J. Coupard commented that they need confirmation of the dates from BE-BI soon.
  • B. Mikulec commented that there are some problems with the conception of the SEMGRIDs for the LBE line (see Linac4 SEMGRID issue), and that the topic needs to be closely followed up by BE-BI.
  • G. P. Di Giovanni will contact L. Soby for a BE-BI update.
  • G. P. Di Giovanni will also contact the relevant expert, whose deadline is marked in red, to confirm the readiness date provided to EN-ACE.

Follow-up on the ECR for LS2 (Thomas William Birtwistle)

  • It was reminded that if an activity impacts “form, fit, or function” an ECR needs to be done, and that the integration team needs to be contacted as soon as possible when relevant for the ECR.
  • The template for ECRs is available here.

The following ECRs are still missing:

  • TE-ABT: upgrade of the BTP line –  W. Bartmann will be the editor for a common document concerning the whole line but he will need input from all the teams.
  • BE-BI: all the BLM-related ECRs and the new BPM in the BI line.
  • TE-MSC: the BT line magnet upgrades and the main, injection, and extraction unit. Work is progressing.
  • TE-EPC: ejection pulse corrector magnets. Work is progressing.
  • EN-ACE: only a few clarifications are missing.
  • BE-RF: waiting for the vacuum supports.
Comments
  • G. P. Di Giovanni commented that it would be good to contact L. Soby to remind him about the ECR of the BPM in the BE-BI line.
  • The BLM locations need to be discussed with integration. G. P. Di Giovanni suggested to contact C. Zamantzas to present in the integration meeting.
  • B. Mikulec commented that the damping resistor measurements will be done at the end of March, so no new information will be available until then.
  • M. Haase commented that the power supplies of the Finemet cavities are included in the ECR 1733551 PSB-ACWFB-EC-0001.
  • G. P. Di Giovanni commented that the responsible for the scraper is I. Lamas Garcia.
  • T. Birtwistle agreed on presenting regularly at the coordination meeting until the end of March in order to allow the group to closely follow up the evolution.

EVM PSB Update (Sylvie Prodon)

  • In view of the cost and schedule review, happening the 26th-28th of March 2018, no reporting is being done for the time being.
  • There is an opportunity to update the EVM baselines (work units, weights, and deliverables) until the 21st of February 2018.
  • The cost variance for LIU-PSB is positive (1.4 MCHF), while the schedule variance is behind by 0.3 months with respect to the active baseline and 3 months with respect to the 2016 baseline. This will need to be explained at the cost and schedule review.
  • M. Meddahi asked to explain the cost variances that are over 100KCHF.
  • Some working groups will need to explain their delay in the schedule variance:
    • LIU-PSB 7 - Beam Intercepting Devices (6 months).
    • LIU-PSB 8 - Vacuum System (5 months).
    • LIU-PSB 10 - PSB Extraction system and PSB-PS transfer line (6 months).
    • LIU-PSB 13 - Cooling and Ventilation (7 months).
    • LIU-PSB 14 - Installation, Transport, and handling (10 months).
 Comments
  • S. Prodon will prepare a short document explaining the delay in schedule variance based on the data, for the concerned working packages to review.

Next LIU-PSB meeting: 6th of March on the intervention scenarios and spare policy of the transformers by Davide Aguglia.

There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
