Abstract:
The Proton Synchrotron (PS) was CERN’s first synchrotron, put in operation in 1959, and it is now part of the LHC injector complex. The magnetic field of the 100 PS main magnets is generated by a main coil and five active auxiliary circuits: one figure-of-eight loop and four pole-face-windings (PFWs). Studies that have been conducted on the use of the PFWs regarding the variation of the PS’s working point at injection and the passive compensation of the eddy currents forming in the vacuum chamber during ramping of the magnetic field will be presented.
