The ALICE upgrade from a system point of view

The ALICE detector will undergo a major upgrade during the long shutdown 2 in order to increase data taking capability and measurement precision.
The upgrade will present a major paradigm change for ALICE as the present triggered system with a maximum PbPb readout rate of 1kHz will be modified to allow for continuous untriggered read-out.
This will allow the ALICE detector to read out and record all events at the increased PbPb collision rate of 50kHz.
Several detector and read-out systems require replacement in order to cope with the increased demands.
A system approach has been designed in order to profit as much as possible from common developments, where also a common read-out ASIC (SAMPA) for the time projection chamber and for the muon system has been developed. The seminar will highlight the developments and will summarise the status of the implementation.
