Line Management Issues

  • Technical student started this week to work on ROOT graphics

  • ATLAS and CMS librarian board tomorrow

  • Google Summer of Code - mentors provided input to reviewers. Number of slots will be decided then

Report from the LIM Meeting

  • Concluded on date (30.5.) for librarians workshop (TODO: add link)

    • One morning

  • Added a new package on request by ALICE (Apache Arrow)

  • Upgrade of BLAS package; TMVA depends on blas (see minutes of LIM)

  • Dev3 problem; wrong config in jenkins

Status of Projects

  • CERNVM

    • CernVM 3.7 release - consolidation release just before easter

    • End of spectre/meltdown patches

    • Integration testing for new filesystem release

  • Simulation

    • Technical Forum will take place in room
      31-1-A24 next week, April 10th at 16:00, where the plan of work
      for this year will be discussed.

  • Persistency

    • Nothing to report

  • ROOT

    • Nothing to report

Experiments’ Feedback

  • ALICE

    • For analysis work in Run 3. Apache Arrow being looked at. Trying to enable in TDataFrame.

  • LHCb

    • Nothing to report

  • ATLAS

    • Nothing to report

    • Continuing with old data taking release; LCG 88 based

    • For Run3 working on multithreaded framework; about to move to LCG_93

  • CMS

    • Nothing to report

  • CLIC

    • Nothing to report

  • IT

    • ARM 64 question was followed up;

    • In LIM people asked for ARM64; computing coordinators not interested according to Tim Bell; needs to be clarified;

    • Would like to have puppet infrastructure for reproducibility; not sustainable for IT;

    • Marco Cattaneo: currently R&D. need a few machines for test;

    • Openlab machines to disappear; TechLab has only a small number of machines

    • No need for full production quality service

    • Patricia will contact Helge to clarify

    • ATLAS will use ARM in online config. Asking for a Linux to use that provides some support.

    • Giulio: wouldn’t docker be enough for now?

    • SSO for GitHub - is now waiting for a new SSO implementation that is not reliant on Microsoft.

  • HSF

    • Successful workshop last week in Naples with WLCG (https://indico.cern.ch/event/658060/). Now deciding on the most important points to follow up and the best ways to do that. Many communities are quite well organised, but some require more bootstrapping. HSF should organise an ‘activity catalog’ and be a point of information exchange (broaden scope of 15h meetings).

    • Feedback on having software and computing together was very positive.

    • Benedikt will give a summary of the WS in the next EP-SFT meeting.

AOB

  • 3 May for next meeting.
