CERN’s Detector Technologies group (EP-DT), in close collaboration with the Engineering Design and Measurement laboratory (EN-MME-EDM), is organising a workshop on carbon fibre composite materials and their use in high energy physics experiments. The course will cover a wide range of topics related to composites, focusing on relevant testing methods and numerical modelling techniques. It will combine hands-on sessions in fabrication and testing with computer sessions in which the participants will have access to state-of-the art simulation software (i.e. ANSYS ACP). In addition, a visit to an external company and/or presentations by industrial experts will be arranged.

The workshop is aimed at technicians, engineers and scientists working on particle detectors with a basic understanding of composite materials and their production methods. Previous experience with finite element analysis is a requirement. Taking into account the scope of the course and the limited number of places available, priority will be given to the participants of the 2016 LBNL composites workshop.

Do not hesitate in contacting the workshop organisers to obtain further details about the course or if you are unsure about its applicability to your work or skill level.
