Scientific Program

The overall goal of the school/workshop is to expose all participants to a range of modern developments in the physics of complex systems while, at the same time, providing interested students with a window into specialized areas of research. Special emphasis will be placed on computational methods and tools. These will be discussed and applied to strongly correlated electrons, topological systems, quantum information and computing, and stretch into biological systems. While primarily a school of theoretical physics, considerable time will be devoted to experimental methods, including application of synchrotron light and the growth and characterization of nanostructures.

Presentations from the following areas are expected, and contributions from these and other topics related to complex systems are encouraged.

Electronic structure near defects, surfaces, and interfaces

Synchrotron Light Applications

Molecular and atomistic biophysics

Strongly correlated electrons

Quantum information and many-body interactions

Dissipation in quantum condensates
