Getting to ALBA Synchrotron

The ALBA Synchrotron is located at Cerdanyola del Vallès, 15 km from Barcelona city centre. It is part of the Barcelona Synchrotron Park, devoted to become an international knowledge hub, next to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with more than 40,000 students and 3,500 researchers.

ARRIVING BY CAR

ALBA is very close to the AP7 and the C58 motorways. From Barcelona city-center, you can reach the site by following the C58 road in approximately 30-40 minutes (depending on the traffic).

ARRIVING BY PLANE

The closest airport to ALBA is Barcelona-El Prat International Airport. It is well connected to Barcelona city-center train stations: Barcelona-Sants, Barcelona-Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona-Catalunya. For more information, you can visit the AENA website or call +34 902 404 704.

Girona-Costa Brava and Reus airports are also available. They are mainly operated by low-cost airlines and they are 45 and 70 minutes drive by car, respectively, to the ALBA Synchrotron.

To reach ALBA from Barcelona-El Prat airport you have basically two options:

Taxi: about 30-40 minutes depending on the traffic and around 40-50 €. Tell the driver to bring you to "Sincrotrón ALBA" or otherwise give him complete address (see above).

Public transport: first you need to go to Barcelona city centre (you can take Aerobus till Plaça Catalunya - 30-35 minutes - 5,90€). Second, you have to take a train until Cerdanyola del Vallès (RENFE) or until Sant Cugat or Bellaterra (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat) (see instructions below). The trip is about 30-40 minutes. Finally, you need to take a bus from the train station till the ALBA Synchrotron - about 15-20 minutes (see complete instructions below).

ARRIVING BY TRAIN

As the site is close to Barcelona, you could plan to arrive by train at one of Barcelona's main train stations, Barcelona-Sants or Barcelona-Estació de França, and take the subway to Plaça Catalunya. From there, you have several options:

Take the line R4 with RENFE, the Spanish railway company, in the direction of Terrassa/Manresa and leave at Cerdanyola del Vallès station. Once there, two bus lines connect Cerdanyola del Vallès RENFE station with the ALBA site: line A4 Cerdanyola del Vallès-Sant Cugat and line B7 Cerdanyola del Vallès - Rubí. The bus stop for ALBA is called Sincrotró.

Take the train service S1 or S5 with Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), and leave at Sant Cugat station. Once there, take the A4 or B7 bus in the direction of Cerdanyola del Vallès (line A4 Cerdanyola del Vallès-Sant Cugat or line B7 Cerdanyola del Vallès - Rubí). The bus stop for ALBA is called Sincrotró.

Or take the train service S6 or S2 with Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), leave at Bellaterra station. From there, you can take the shuttle bus PA to Parc de l’ALBA.


 

All Public transports Metro/Bus/Train/Tram (expect Metro to Airport or Aerobus) work with the same type of ticket TMB (1 zone) available at any Metro or Train Station. Barcelona and Cerdanyola del Vallès area are both located in the same zone (zone 1).

  • Single ticket TMB (1 zone): A travel card for 1 single journey that costs 2.20€

  • T-10 card TMB (1 zone): A multi-person travel card for 10 journeys that costs 10.20€

With the same ticket you are allowed to make transfer during 1h15.

Currency

The currency used in Spain is Euro (€). Mastercards and Visa credit cards work in shops and every ATM. Exchange money offices are also available at Barcelona airport or in Barcelona.

Accommodation

There are several hotels in Cerdanyola del Vallès or Barcelona. Special prices with pre-booked rooms for the FLUKA course are available at the following ones:

Located in the entrance of Cerdanyola del Vallès with connection to Barcelona by Bus line A4 (40 min), it is the closest hotel from ALBA Synchrotron (20 min walking, or 5 min by bus line A4 or line B7 to Sincrotrón ALBA). Located in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona campus and connected to Universitat Autònoma (FGC) Train station with direct line S6 or S2 to Barcelona (30-40 min). Also close to ALBA Synchrotron (40 min walking, or 10 min by shuttle bus to Parc de l’ALBA). For the reservation you can contact directly the hotel with the reference code “FLUKA”:

Venue

The first day of the course, go to ALBA Synchrotron Security Gate, with your ID card or passport to get you access badge to the installation.

Then go to the ALBA reception area, where signalization will show you the course location. The course location is the “Tesla Training Room – P2 OF 26”, located in the 2nd Floor of the Office Building.

Once here, you will receive all the welcome information related to the course.
