Description
The European Spallation Source ERIC is a joint European organization committed to building and operating the world's leading facility for research using neutrons. The facility uses a 2 GeV proton beam hitting a tungsten target to produce neutrons (predominately boil off neutrons at about 2MeV and spallation product). A recent document from ESS (The ESS Instrument Suite – A Capability Gap Analysis ) has analysed the capability gaps remaining after construction of the first 15 instruments, and the result of this analysis has shown that one of the community that is most obviously not catered is the particle physics community. For this reason the wording of the European Strategy should take into account that non-collider fundamental physics experiments in Europe outside of CERN
