Travel
The Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK) is located on a hill outside of Heidelberg, Germany. Bus number 39 takes 15 minutes from downtown Heidelberg (Bismarckplatz) to MPIK (bus stop "Kernphysik", see here). There's a ticket machine at most tram/bus stops where you can get a single, one-day or three-day ticket (see rnv-online.de for detailed infos).
The closest international airport (80 km) is Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). You can take a train to Heidelberg (book at bahn.de), or alternatively take a shuttle (book here or here).
Accomodation
You are responsible to find and book an accommodation, there is no standard or recommended hotel.
However, we list a few options with a good location that you could consider (at cost 80 Euro / night and more - it's hard to find something cheaper in Heidelberg):
- The MPIK guest house located at the MPIK grounds (see infos, price list, and make a reservation via email). The guest house has pros (nice, quiet, cheap, 1 min walk to meeting room) and cons (on the hill outside of Heidelberg, you need to take the bus or "bus taxi" in the evening if you want to join the group for dinner). Space is limited, you have to email and ask if they still have a room.
- GuestHouse Heidelberg - 79 Euro for studio with kitchenet (breakfast to go only), email vt@guesthouse-hd.de and use code "gammapy" before Feb 17th.
- Hotel Panorama - 90 Euro for single room including breakfast, email info@panorama-hd.de and use code "gammapy" before Feb 17th.
- Hotel Bayerischer Hof - 83 Euro for single room including breakfast, email Ruth Crespo.
