Programme committee meeting for the 2019 LC community meeting

Europe/Zurich

Thanks to all for an efficient meeting today.

Discussion document:

Goals as stated on the WEB page for the meeting:

- Initiate the formation of a strategy for future linear collider activities.
- Discuss how to present the case for linear colliders at the Open Symposium in Granada.
- Address the future organisation of the international linear collider activities beyond LCC.

In short:
- G1: Strategy for LCs (what is our goal the LC(s) – as global strategy)
- G2: ESPP (how do we get there short term)
- G3: LCC++ (how do we do it longer term)

Agenda outline discussed (very first ideas):

Start Monday 11:00
Session Mon 11:00-12:45: Welcome, Introduction, Main goals, the ESPP in short, one or two talks about why we believe LCs are the right way forward (1-2 talks), describe rest of meeting (keep relatively short)
Session Mon 13:45-18:30:  Review project inputs to Strategy Process, project “political” status (ILC or CLIC, and/or via region reports) and desired outcome of decision processes (what would we like to see as LC future - consider various alternatives)

Concerning first session (specifically the point reminding about the LC motivations in one or two talks in the 11:00-12:45 session):

In the discussion it was iterated by several that we need a proper comparison between LC and Circular Colliders (CC) concerning implementation realism/timescale, long term prospects and in particular luminosity, as well as physics of course. The possibility to charge someone, or a small group, to look into (some of) these issues was also mentioned. Lyn and Daniel (and maybe others) know both LCs and CCs well so ….

Discussion during evening/overnight

Session Tue 8:30-9:30 Continuation of session Monday afternoon
Session Tue 10-12:30 EPSS in more detail, WGs, talks, etc – main messages and how to pass them (see slides in indico from our first meeting concerning the Granada programme draft)
Session Tue 1330-1530 Conclusions, open issues, next steps, LCC++ options and ideas

End Tues 1530: Travel
Others points from todays meeting:

We will try to circulate widely the WEB page for the LC-CM meeting this week as announcement of the meeting, and open for registration next week.

It was also mentioned/suggested that we should keep this a community meeting for the LC community first and foremost, that we should be prepared to consider/discuss alternative scenarios and project possibilities, and that further discussions/follow up might be needed between April and mid May …

Please use this mailing list for suggestions, ideas, clarification and to spread information.

Best regards, Steinar
