Travel & Hotel Information

Venue

The cloister is about 8 km outside of Aschaffenburg. You can find more information here.

Note: it is not allowed to bring or consume your own food or drinks. If someone does (and they notice) they will charge 1 €/person/day. However, they do have their own bar and the next Bavarian beer garden is only a 6 minutes bus ride away :)

If you arrive early on Sunday and want to get lunch the Restaurant Landgasthof Klosterschänke is right next to the venue. (Traditional German cuisine)

How to get to Kloster Schmerlenbach

Important: If you arrive at the venue after 19.00 let me know! The reception closes at 19.00 so you will need the door code to get in and instructions how to find your room & your room key have to be prepared. Plus: we can cancel the unnecessary dinner reservation for you.

  • Pre-ordered Taxi:

This is the cheapest option as soon as you are more than one person going at a time. I cut a deal with a local taxi company coming down to 50 € from the airport directly to the venue if we all use the same company. A van for 6 people is 65 €. Heads-up: You can only pay cash, no cards are accepted!

Once you know your exact arrival time send me an email (janina.renk@fysik.su.se) then I can coordinate and group people which come in at similar times.

(If you just get into a non-pre-ordered taxi at the airport it will be about 90 €.)

  • Public Transport:

    • Train from Frankfurt Airport to Aschaffenburg Hbf (schedule: www.bahn.de/en)

      - direct, long distance train (ICE), 24.50€, takes about 45 minutes, leaves once per hour. You can book online, via the Deutsche Bahn App, or buy it at one of the red/silver ticket machines

      - Regional train (S,RE,RB) with 1 interchange, ~13 €, takes about 1:15 h, leaves twice per hour. Tickets: if your interchange is at the main station in Frankfurt buy it at the red/silver ticket machines, if it is in Hanau use the green/blue ones. (At least it was like this in December but they keep changing things so no guarantee!)

    • Getting to Kloster Schmerlenbach

Unfortunately there is no bus going out there on Sundays. You could get on a train to Hösbach and then walk (~20 min). We‘d recommend taking a cab from Aschaffenburg, it takes about 10 minutes and should be around 13 €. We might have one or two cars available to pick you up, more information will follow closer to the meeting.

For your journey back: the bus leaves once per hour during the week, you can find the schedule here on the second page (https://www.vab-info.de/eigene_dateien/pdf-download/2019_landkreis_ab/fp_43_20190318.pdf, from Schmerlenbach to Aschaffenburg Hbf).

Departure Information

People with similar departure time can form groups on short notice on site. Taking public transport you can take a bus, it leaves every hour from 08.50 and takes either 15 min (leaving in even hours) or 23 min (uneven hours).
