About Istanbul

Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey, constituting the country's economic, cultural and historical center. The population of almost 15 million lives in Istanbul's vast area of 5,343 square kilometers. Istanbul is situated at the Bosphorus – one of the world's busiest waterways – in northwestern Turkey, between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. Its commercial and historical center lies in Europe, while a third of its population lives on the Asian side. Tourist information can be found here

The today currency between TL and Euro is 1€ = 6.5 Turkish Lira (TL) (it is not stable, it will be updated before the meeting).

Please don't change your money in the airport exchange office, use bank ATM or bank office in the airport. 

It is strongly recommended to use always Turkish Lira (TL) for taxi, restaurant, etc...

There are two airports in the Istanbul which are called Sabiha Gökçen Airport and İstanbul Airport.  You can find the information about the airports in the below.

All taxis are official in Turkey. You can find three three types of taxi (yellow, turquoise and black). Yellow cap is the cheapest option. For example turquoise one is 15% expensive than  yellow one. Black one is the most expensive one.

You can take Turkish Visa on the Sabiha Gökçen/Istanbul airport or you can take the visa online. Yo can find more information for Turkish visa in here.

Meeting Location

The meeting will take place at the Piri Reis University Seaside Campus

We will organize guest access for internet.

We will make a block reservation for lunches in a nearby restaurant (walking distance), the price of lunch is around 8-10 Euros. 

From Kadiköy:

Option 1: the university is 75 minutes bus ride (line 130A - 06:00 am to 04:00 am) far from Kadiköy

Option 2: you can take metro from M4 Kadiköy to Tavşantepe metro line (get off at last stop and use exit 2 E-5 Tuzla Yanyol Side)  and  take bus line 130A/minibus/taxi. Taxi price from Tavşantepe metro to Piri Reis University Seaside Campus is around 35 TL (~ 5 Euros)

Option 3: You can take a taxi from Kadiköy to university. It costs around 80 TL (~ 14 Euros)

From Tuzla region Hotel to the university:

In brief, the university is maximumly 15 minutes bus ride or walk. You can take a bus line 130A/minibus/taxi. 

Public Transport in Istanbul

The city has a decent bus network, provided by the IETTYou can find route/station search and route planner link for bus/metro/ferry/train in the web or on android/apple applications. All public transportation can be paid by Istanbul Card. You can buy it from vending machines on metro/bus/ferry stops or small kiosk, where you can also refill it. It costs 6 TL (~ 1 €).

The regular cost is 2.60 TL (~ 0.40 €) per ride (no time limit and not including bus/metro/ferry changes). The price increases/decreases by distance and type of transportation.

Google maps does a good job with public transport. 

Getting from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport to Tuzla

Sabiha Gökçen International Aiport is the closest airport to Tuzla. It takes ~20 minutes by car. It is recommended to fly here (since Atatürk airports is closed, Istanbul airport is far from Tuzla). You can find cheap flights from Europe to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport by Pegasus Airlines. Also Turkish Airlines has flights from Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

Option 1: Take the public bus

  • From Sabiha Gökçen to Tuzla  bus line 130H please note that it has limited trips in a day (between 06:00 am to 07:00 pm - every 3 hours).  
  • From Sabiha Gökçen to  Pendik bus lines 132H (between 06:30 am to 10:00 pm - every one hour). Then take a bus line 130A/minibus/taxi. 
  • From Sabiha Gökçen to Kadiköy bus line E10 (nonstop- every one hour) and then from Kadiköy to the university is a 75 minutes  bus ride (line 130A) from Kadiköy or you can take metro from M4 Kadiköy to Tavşantepe metro line (get off at last stop and use exit 2 E-5 Tuzla Yanyol Side)  and  bus line 130A/minibus/taxi. Taxi price from Tavşantepe metro to Piri Reis University Seaside Campus is around 35 TL (~ 5 Euros).

Option 2:  With HAVABUS Shuttles you can travel to and from Sabiha Gökçen Airport, to Kadıköy and Taksim. 

The shuttles are white colored and parked in front of the arrivals terminal building, at exit level, ready to take you to Kadıköy for a fee of 10 TL. Kadıköy departure point is the pier. Shuttles work between 03:30 am and 01:00 am hours.

From Kadiköy to the university it takes a 75 minutes  bus ride (line 130A) or you can take metro from M4 Kadiköy to Tavşantepe metro line (get off at last stop and use exit 2 E-5 Tuzla Yanyol Side)  and  bus line 130A/minibus/taxi. Taxi price from Tavşantepe metro to Piri Reis University Seaside Campus  is around 35 TL (~ 5 Euros).

Option 3: Take a taxi. It costs 45 TL (~7 €) to the university/hotel. It is the cheapest and fast way to reach Tuzla.

Getting from Istanbul International Airport to Tuzla

Only one option is available from Istanbul Airport to Tuzla: Havaist. Havaist, IETT and Istanbul Seyahat offer services to passengers who are looking to access Istanbul Airport via public transportation. Havaist carries out luxury passenger and luggage transportation services on 20 different lines, 65 stations and 150 buses. Ensuring full time city integration from Istanbul Airport.

Use Pendik Line from Istanbul Airport then take a bus line 130A/minibus/taxi. 

Please don't use taxi or other private transportation!!! It will be very expensive to go to Tuzla by taxi or other private transportation!!!
