An IRIS-HEP Blueprint Workshop

We are pleased to announce a four-day event “Fast Machine Learning", which will be hosted at the Fermilab LPC from September 10 to 13.  The first two days (Sept 10-11) are dedicated to a Blueprint Meeting of the Institute for Research and Innovation in Software (IRIS-HEP). The Blueprint meetings are used to inform the development and evolution of the IRIS-HEP strategic vision, including invited speakers from domain science (HEP and beyond), computer science and industry. The second two days (Sept 12-13) are more of an open “developer bootcamp” format with code tutorials and demonstrations.

Machine learning (ML) is rapidly becoming the major tool to analyze complex datasets over many different disciplines, including high-energy physics. Following the rapid rise of ML through deep learning algorithms, a re-investigation of processing technologies and strategies to accelerate deep learning and inference is well underway. This workshop is aimed at current and emerging methods and scientific applications for deep learning and inference acceleration, including ultrafast on-detector inference and real-time systems, acceleration as-a-service, hardware platforms, coprocessor technologies (CPU/GPU/TPU/FPGAs), distributed learning, and hyper-parameter optimization.
