Durant l'été 2018, une équipe internationale d’explorateurs, scientifiques et communicateurs de science embarquent à bord du voilier Nanuq, pour tenter de localiser l'épave du dirigeable d'Umberto Nobile qui s'est échoué sur la banquise 90 ans plus tôt. Tel le laboratoire aérien de 1928, POLARQUEST2018 a mené des expériences scientifiques à bord. Echantillonnage de micro-plastiques, rayons cosmiques ou qualité de l'eau, l'objectif est de contribuer à mesurer l'impact du réchauffement climatique dans une région qui contrairement aux apparences, est loin d'être épargnée par les activités humaines.
L’expédition a battu plusieurs records, en mesurant notamment pour la première fois des rayons cosmiques et en trouvant des micro-plastiques au delà des 82° de latitude Nord, et en produisant les premières cartographies en 3D d’îles et côtes au Nord de l’archipel des Svalbard.
Le voilier retenu pour l'expédition a été conçu pour voyager dans les régions arctiques en autarcie et sans recours à des énergies non renouvelables. Le documentaire, tourné à bord pendant l’expédition, raconte ce voyage en restituant des images époustouflantes de ces terres proches du Pôle Nord, là où l'ours blanc est dominateur absolu.

In the summer of 2018, an international team of explorers, scientists and science communicators board the Nanuq sailboat, trying to locate the wreck of the Umberto Nobile airship that drowned 90 years earlier. Just like the 1928 aerial laboratory, POLARQUEST2018 conducted scientific experiments onboard. Sampling micro-plastics, cosmic rays or water quality, the objective was to help measure the impact of global warming in a region that is far from being spared by human activities.
The expedition broke several records, notably by measuring for the first time cosmic rays and finding microplastics beyond 82 ° North latitude, and by producing the first 3D maps of islands and coasts north of the Svalbard archipelago.
The sailboat selected for the expedition was designed to travel in arctic regions in autarky and without recourse to non-renewable energies. The documentary, shot on board during the expedition, recounts this trip by restoring breathtaking images of these lands near the North Pole, where the polar bear is absolute dominator.
