Towards an LHC DM WG white paper on models with 𝒕-channel production of DM @ LHC (LHC DM WG public meeting)

Europe/Zurich
Christian Ohm (KTH Royal Institute of Technology (SE)), Oleg Brandt (Ruprecht Karls Universitaet Heidelberg (DE)), Philip Coleman Harris (Massachusetts Inst. of Technology (US)), Tim M.P. Tait (University of California, Irvine), Ulrich Andreas Haisch (University of Oxford (GB)), Xabier Cid Vidal (Instituto Galego de Física de Altas Enerxías)

Minutes:

  • intro (no intro slides slides)

  • Cross check of simplified model with CMS (Yalcin Guler)

    • C: very nice to see the cross-sections of existing UFO (Bai & Berger) and Über-UFO (with consistent quantum number settings: Dirac DM, mediator coupling to RH up quarks only [DMSimp-t-S3D_uR]) agree within uncertainties

  • Update from DMSimp_t team on Über-UFO

    • Q/p7: “from the best signal regions” → which regions are these? (informed decision about binning and analysis optimisation for the future

      • A: one of the intermediate MET bins, will follow up by email

    • Q/p8-p9: how will this look like for BM2?

      • A: the analysis is still running, LXBATCH slow

        • C: DMSimp_t team very much welcomes contributions to study the model phenomenology. Technical setup etc can be provided to start smoothly

    • Q: did other individuals/teams approach you?

      • A: few people asked for further info about the UFO, in touch with them

    • AI: look at other signal configurations

  • Discussion:

    • General consensus:

      • The White Paper (WP) could be structured like this:

        • Begin with an introduction of the different spin/quantum number configurations for the DM and the mediator,

        • show total cross-sections + basic kinematic distributions for representative benchmark models,

        • compare to existing UFOs

        • [possibly reinterpretation of existing ATLAS/CMS results]

        • Recommendations for interpreting future ATLAS/CMS results

        • It would be interesting to include a section on t-channel models beyond Minimal Flavour Violation

      • Writing the first part of the White Paper comes closer

        • AI: think about names for editing the paper

    • AI: it would be good to do more validations of the Über-UFO against existing implementations

    • AI: It would be good to identify names to be in charge of this effort from the experimental collaborations
