Description
The Penning trap ion cooler REXTRAP has been upgraded with a mass-separation
technique to clean REX beams from isobaric impurities. The system was lately
demonstrated to work with stable beams. It showed a maximum resolution of about 30 Hz
in the case of 40K/40Ca, corresponding to a mass resolving power of M/dM ~40000,
enabling to resolve many radioactive isobars from stable and radioactive
contaminations. The technique will be briefly introduced and the possibilities and
limitations will be dicussed.
