Modena, A ?, E. Marin Lacomba Decelerator operation scenarios were presented by E. Adli (slides provided) Comments on presentation: 20% overhead to baseline maximum gradient of 81.2 T/m are required due to phase-advance flexibility + flexibility of changing drive beam initial energy nominal working point MM: we are already on the limit for 81.2 T/m, we can squeeze 10%, but not 20%. -> challenging. Discussion: must try to negotiate more longitudinal space for quads (e.g. will depend on BPM design). Tune-up simulations shows that no significant improvement of initial envelope is found by reducing nominal below 80% of nominal. Simulations were done with 20 um rms quadrupole misalignment. Consensus to allow for up to ~30% of the initial gradient at the end of the lattice RC: suggests tp redo simulations with 50 um rms misalignment Low energy running: DS: might be a bit excessive to require both 70% for low-energy running and 70% of that for lower phase-advance for such a run -> we go for 70% lower limit as requirement for now. Simulations results of two-magnets serial scenario was shown; negligible impact at start of lattice, large impact toward end. Common agreement to string two magnets at the 30% first part of the lattice. Trimming opportunities of magnets: a rough estimate from power group: ~1A in return line will be small enough to reduce cable cost by a factor 5. To be figured out in more detail how many amps we can get for a single magnet, and subsequently the trimming flexibility for the magnets at the start of the lattice. Some action items : * Update and simplify scenario chart (EA) * Redo tune-up simulations for 50 um quads (EA) * Investiagate the possibilities of 20% extra gradent / longer quads (MM) * Provide estimate on maximum current available for trimming (SP/DS) * Investiage further single/multiple failures (SP/DS/EA/MJ) * We will try to write down the most important information in a recommendation note by the 25th of March (EA will take initative to gather the information, and set-up the document frame). It will not be an attempt to document all the information arosen during the last weeks discussions, but should be enough to justify the recommendations. EA, 3/3/2010
