POLAR-2 biweekly meeting
Agenda:
- Update Merlin on CSU + scintillators
- Update Nicolas on test setup + module design Geneva
- Dominik on TDR Polar + other news
- Discussion on scintillator plan for spectrometer with MPE
- Collaboration meeting plan
Attendance:
Geneva: Nicolas dA, Nicolas P, Jerome, Merlin
NCBJ: Agnieszka, Adam
MPE: J. Michael, Jochen
Merlin goes over action item list of all WPs
WP0 (management): documents provided to ESA to start approval process which will lead to funding release for UNIGE. Account now open so we can start to spend money, Merlin needs to figure out the details on how this will work
WP1 (modules): Quote for scintillators came in today, have asked for a second one for a different scintillator material (higher light yield but less temperature resistance). Will likely order the first batches during the coming weeks.
Nicolas dA has designed the plastic grid + is looking into scintillator wrapper together with Franck (we found an alternative). We will perform an optical test for the wrapper material in the coming weeks. After that the grid design and wrapping can be finalized.
WP2 (Front-end electronics): Currently stuck on getting the readout working with the Babymind board, Nicolas dA is working hard on this and scanning the full parameter space. Nicolas P suggests we could have problems due to the long tail of the SiPMs we are using (600 ns), we can discus this in detail during the coming days and look for alternatives.
In parallel Jerome will look into producing firmware for testing the GOWIN ASIC for radiation tests which can be performed at DPNC.
WP3 (back-end electronics): Dominik has problems with Monday meetings so did not attend. He has promised to finish his TDR this week. Probably a good idea to have a dedicated meeting about this to keep things moving (next time he can join is in 4 weeks).
WP4 (LVPS): No news regarding funding in Poland, hopefully soon. Idea is still that NCBJ produces the LVPS.
WP5 (full mechanical integration): We are stuck on dimensions from CSU. After several requests they have decided to have a meeting soon aftter the spring festival holidays. After this we can start moving quickly.
WP6 (component level qualification tests): nothing to do
WP7 (acceptance tests): nothing to do
WP8 (POSS): Nicolas dA has looked into hardware to buy and the price for the 1553B of fibre protocols (very expensive), has asked Xin to check with ESA if they can provide it to us for free. Merlin will remind Xin of this. For component buying Merlin has to check how things work now that we have the University account (do we need to write justifications for everything?). Additionaly we have requested CSU to give us the contact information of the local expert to get more stream lined information on the communication protocols.
WP9 (spectrometers): Whether to understand if GeCAM can be properly integrated Merlin will ask IHEP for a document describing the integration plans
Regarding the MPE option a Babymind board is available which can be used to understand if the polarimeter FEE can be used to also readout high Z scintillators. Merlin will answer some questions from Jochen regarding high Z scintillator buying option.
Regarding the Wok and the other spectrometers Jochen and J. Michael will check about the physics requirements again and see if we really need 3 different detectors.
AOB:
NCBJ: Adam has started to check the compression algorithms, will come with a final conclusion soon.
MPE: Jochen is writing a funding proposal (with help from J. Michael, Nicolas and Merlin) which is partly dedicated to funding the spectrometers (170 kEuro). Decision should come in September, before that we can test using 25 kEuro and help from the Geneva group.
Last: for those who have not yet done this please sign up for the second collaboration meeting!
