Present:

Lars, Verena, Bren, Elena, Greg, Andy, Stephane, Giulia, Francesco, Loic, Chris, James, Eric M, Hannes, Ivan, Eric V, Kevin, Etienne

Matters arising and actions:

  • D.Nisbet contacted for FGC names: in progress
  • Document on interlocking use-cases being prepared for circulation
  • LSS1 drains, inspection stopped by calcaire, too much radioactive water, methodology to be improved. But drain is broken and needs serious intervention to fix - will be LS3. SMB in charge of this.
  • Wirescanners and schedule, not seen as major problem for BI by Lars

News on dry-run and test progress:

  • When will final version of Wirescanner FESA class be ready? Early March for discussion (Lars/Verena)
  • 1st Alps dry run held last week, had to move to BA6 (thanks for flexibility).
    • Got signals in YASP, using the calibration mode, measured orbit in signal and multi-acquisition mode. Saw some strange signals and traced to faulty BPM connections, many issues identified and solved by BI.
    • Issues also found and fixed in YASP with synchronous first turn.
    • Conclusions: very useful. In future check better services available for dry-run, tested FIFO, first turn, trajectory, orbit. Fixed HW connections. Next run March 2nd.
  • ISTs missing released document for ZS. ISTs begin at end of July. Propose to look through the planning in May (BLT to add).
    • Question of whether ISTs are being managed in the SPS machine coordination (David/Julie).

RF integration to-do list

  • List generated, with dashboard indicating which aspects still need doing and some key dates https://codimd.web.cern.ch/azNDE48cRJ-7xw9YMrRhqQ
  • Expected dates from RF defined, Giulia will come back on 18th March, with RF power limitations also from Elena
  • Will continuously update this with Andy and his team
  • Intensity effects algorithms should come by June; Giulia comments for fully fledged algorithms, measurements would probably be needed, to sort out deployment of python scripts in the CCC (Verena/Kevin)
  • Iterations on some of the dates needed (Giulia, Andy, Verena, Kevin).
  • Dry runs defined, starting this week, then starting from w12 to integrate what's coming from SW, LL and OP side.

RF distribution follow-up

  • Extensive discussion, everyone has all signals they need. BST signals available in BCR, for ALPS will use Frev1, no use to have 2 separate frequencies.
  • For fixed frequency acceleration will use the average.
  • Frev1 or Frev2 needed in theory only for the bunch by bunch measurements. In practice, ALPS and FBCT capable of beam synchronous acquisitions. Only remaining missing capability is beam 2 WS during slipstacking. Seems acceptable to do without.
  • No modification on the BST side to switch these frequencies.

Updated FESA readiness list

List is updated and maintained. Classes which will be needed for specific dry runs should be identified - part of the dry run analysis

  • RF LL, still on schedule for April 2020 for cavity control, end Jan 2020 for other stuff. Discussion on what 'deadline' actually means - should be something close to the final release, but final versions will be only before IST. The 'first release' date is the most important, all OK with this.
  • RF damper and power, in progress
  • SPS kickers and SBDS, March 2020, some technical aspects still being discussed. Need to discuss Oasis and ZS spark signal acquisition (Etienne). Clarified that the 'XPOC' type functionality is in SPSQ
  • BI still need to supply dates for some minor stuff, like BCT name changes (Lars, Eric)
  • EPC should have FEI by April 2020.
  • MPE interlocking by March 2020
  • For SMM/OP/CO all dates in place - add TCDIL to the list (Eric)
  • CALS/NXCALS no date, but Chris Roderik will come to IPP to discuss including APIs end February.

Layout optics procedure applied to SPS

  • Complex workflow for definition of the beamline study, checks and documentation. Gave detailed feedback on how to improve this, especially stuff like alignment of bumps should be correctly dealt with by SU.
  • Different if modifying existing sequence or machine.
  • Very much a work in progress - needs to be pragmatic enough to be applied while still being useful and fixings some of the issues of the past. For SPS no specific remaining use case - more a post-mortem improvement.
  • SPS still verifying the 'small' changes, but for LSS1, LSS3 and LSS5 all layouts frozen and provided to SU. Final optics files for OP will come in a few weeks. Also confusion in some case between SSR and ECRs. All this to improve in the future, e.g. change SSR to obsolete.

Round Table

  • Preliminary results for MKP, will discuss in BD meetings and report back.
  • 200 MHz progressing as planned, 28 towers validated.
  • Discussion on ventilation of EXC5 (to address fan noise)

Next meeting: 26 February
