Silicon particle detectors are used in several applications and will clearly require better radiation tolerance. The planned upgrade scenario of LHC (Super-LHC, S-LHC) to a luminosity of 1035 cm−2/s, corresponding to expected total fluences of fast hadrons above 1016 cm−2.
