*** PS BGI-Vertical specification ***
• Specification same as for BGI-Horizontal, but with the following exceptions:
• Beam aperture requires that the distance between the cathode (-20kV) and ground electrode is 120mm compared to 70mm for BGI-Horizontal.
• -> Aperture of BGI-Vertical needs to be ~50mm greater than that of the BGI-Horizontal magnet.
• Transverse profile should be measured from -21mm < y < +21mm, compared to -28mm < x < +28mm for the BGI-Horizontal (beam centered at x=0, y=0)
• -> Only 3 x Timepix3 hybrid pixel detectors required compared to 4 for the BGI-Horizontal.
*** Project timeline ***
• Installation at PS SS84 by Spring 2020.
• ECR by end of October 2018.
• Milestones for 2018:
• Vacuum tank specification by end of May 2018.
• Manufacturing drawings of the vacuum tank and flanges by end of 2018.
*** Other items ***
• Budget for BGI-Vertical mechanical (vacuum & instrument) design & production = 155 kCHF.
• For BGI-Horizontal 259 kCHF was spent on mechanical design & production (67 kCHF design, 85 kCHF instrument mechanics & 107 kCHF vacuum mechanics) -> need to reduce costs by 1/3.
• Updates to the BGI-Horizontal 3D model have been implemented; update to mechanical drawings delayed due to software problems, but should be solved in the coming weeks.
*** Actions ***
• Didier to discuss with Dominique the vacuum tank & magnet interface in the coming weeks.
• Swann to simulate the performance of a BGI-Horizontal like design scaled up for the extra 50mm cathode gap needed for the BGI-Vertical.
*** Next meeting ***
Propose Thursday 24th May 2018 Didier's office at 10am.
