CERN-Michelin telco to discuss the use of WinCC OA at CERN and CERN control frameworks
INDICO: https://indico.cern.ch/event/925904/
Participants: Julien Aubineau (Michelin), Enrique Blanco, Jean-Charles Tournier, Jonas Arroyo Garcia, Jeronimo Ortola, Piotr Golonka (CERN)
- motivation from the point of view of Michelin was presented by Julien: the project seems to aim at integration of the supervision layer for numerous control system in the plants
- the PLC brands used at Michelin at the moment are Rockwell, Siemens and Schneider; there are numerous other "turnkey" solutions (eg. building automation, CV), for which the integration is not in the scope of this activity. All the equipment in this scope is controlled through PLCs. Some of these are quite old.
- the approach of UCPC was drafted by Jeronimo; in the long run, and for new installations it may be very interesting; at the moment the focus is to integrate some first groups of devices and think of replacing their local monitoring/supervision with a common WinCC-OA based
- An approach for integration for large heterogeneous systems using the JCOP Framework (which underpins UNICOS/CPC too) may also be adequate
- WinCC OA would be used as the way to concentrate data from the control layer and publish it to enterprise business-analytics through, eg. OPC-UA (the objective is to isolate this layer from the control layer and avoid, e.g. excessive polling, etc).
- A question about the profile for a developer of such systems; it depends on the approach: in general, an IT-engineed profile would be adequate; for CPC a lot is provided by the framework, and few things need to be developed on the SCADA layer, hence an automation engineer could do a lot; clarified that good relationship with the IT support to establish all the necessary infrastructure (e.g. Oracle databases, enterprise IT infrastructure, user management, etc) and properly approach the security is needed
- agreed for a follow telco at the end of June, focusing on
- presentation of an example of a CPC-based application, e.g. CRYO which could be already familiar to Julien
- presentation of an example of an application integrated with JCOP-tools
- CERN approach to security
- Julien will present more details on the objectives from the perspective of Michelin
- @ACTION: organize the telco at the end of June/beginning of July
- A question about the use of functional safety - may be treated in parallel.
