Present: Vittorio Parma <Vittorio.Parma@cern.ch; Herve Prin <Herve.Prin@cern.ch>; Gabriella Rolando <Gabriella.Rolando@cern.ch>; Olivier Pirotte <Olivier.Pirotte@cern.ch>; Arnaud Vande Craen <arnaud.vande.craen@cern.ch>; Yacine Raqai <yacine.raqai@cern.ch>; Gaelle Ninet <gaelle.dib@cern.ch>; Robin Betemps <Robin.Betemps@cern.ch>, Romain Ferriere <romain.ferriere@cern.ch>; Delio Duarte Ramos <Delio.Ramos@cern.ch>, Susana Izquierdo Bermudez <susana.izquierdo.bermudez@cern.ch>; Diego Zambelli <diego.zambelli@cern.ch>; Samer Yammine <samer.yammine@cern.ch>; Salvador Ferradas <salvador.ferradas.troitino@cern.ch>

Excused: Felix Rodriguez Mateos <Felix.Rodriguezmateos@cern.ch>

Paragraphs of the document that underwent comments are going to be modified accordingly:

Action list

  • Preparation before test should be added
  • Vittorio will review and modify accordingly the subject of the installation of the anti-cryostat.
  • 3.1          Thermo-hydraulic requirements to be completed by CRG

Input from Herve:

    •  the sections showing the interconnections of the different circuits including pipe routing and heights
    • the volume of helium in the cold mass
    • to be verified that the height of the liquid helium levels that are controlled on the CFB side are compatible with the liquid helium levels needed in the cold mass
  • 3.2.1      Powering and magnet protection requirement. To be completed by TF. To be reviewed by Samer Yammine. Protection to be reviewed by Susana Izquierdo & Felix
  • Integration drafting works needed for the placement of the EE system in cluster A (Design office, A. Kosmicki?)
  • CRG will share drawings and documentation of the CFB with R. Betemps

Verification and Approval modifications

Verification

  • Vittorio and Herve for the cold-mass
  • EN EL & CRG
  • EPC (Samer and Felix)
  • Transport (Diego)

Approval

  • Project engineers (Juan Carlos Perez, Susana Izquierdo and Ezio Todesco) and Management (Luca Bottura)

Preparation before test should be added

1.3       The HL-LHC Q2 cold masses test bench

Vittorio will review and modify accordingly the subject of the installation of the anti-cryostat.

CRG reminded how, following the experience with the 11T magnets, the control of temperature for the cooling helium has been implemented on all the CFB : CRG monitors the temperatures of the helium supply (inlet for the magnet) and the return helium coming from the magnet (outlet magnet) as well as a sensor affixed on the magnet. The difference of temperature between the supply and the return helium or between the helium supply and the magnet temperature are taken into account to limit the cool down speed. CRG has no information about the temperature distribution on the magnet. Olivier mentions that all the SC magnets of experiments at CERN are equipped with sensors and that the experiments supply the max delta T of the magnet that is compared in addition to the delta T inlet/outlet.

3.1       Thermo-hydraulic requirements

The inputs already present in the document should be sufficient for settings the requirements and the design afterwards. To be done in collaboration with Herve Prin (cold mass) and TF.

CRG specifically needs:

  • the sections showing the interconnections of the different circuits including pipe routing and heights
  • the volume of helium in the cold mass
  • to be verified that the height of the liquid helium levels that are controlled on the CFB side are compatible with the liquid helium levels needed in the cold mass

3.2.1   Powering and magnet protection requirements

To be completed by TF.

To be reviewed by Samer Yammine.

3.2.1   Main circuit

The ramp rate of 200 A/s will be set as a requirement. The power converter should be able to attain the desired dI/dt. Cabling has to be reviewed for that purpose.

Inside the same paragraph, the magnet protection scheme will be reviewed also by S. Izquierdo and Felix Rodriguez Mateos.

EPC needs input on the place where to place the energy extraction system in Cluster A (which will host one IGBT based EEs and one vacuum switch EEs). A. Kosmicki will be called for the integration.

The 600 A circuit will not be dismantled in Cluster A, however there won’t be routing towards A1.

F 2 kA commutator deliverable end of this year.

3.3       Handling requirements

Diego Zambelli will validate and add any missing aspect.

Table 4 inside handling requirements should be checked by Delio, to check if the values are up to date. The proposed way is to create an EDMS document and follow the formal approval scheme.

However, it should be noted that all the info shown reflects the machine configuration, there is no service module and jumper (Q2b).

After the review of CRG and confirm the absence of modification to the cold mass for the test, the study for transport will be completed.

List of documents to be prepared, by priority, agreed after discussing the current status of the different tasks.

  • Q2
  • Q1/Q3
  • D2
  • Corrector package
  • D1
