Abstract:

Dynamic effects in fast-ramped, normal-conducting magnets are difficult to predict on the 10-4 level. Highly accurate magnetic-field measurements are thus needed to measure field delays due to 3D eddy current and iron-hysteresis effects.

However, the measurements are often restricted to a few defined current cycles, and extrapolating results are generally not accurate enough. This motivates the need for field synthesis combining simulations, magnetic measurements, and empirical parameter estimations, which is also known as the “twin”.  This seminar covers the recent development of instruments and tools for the measurement process, which has led to the construction of a versatile rotating-coil bench. Preliminary results on synthetizing tools are presented and their application to measurement campaigns is discussed.
