ABP-HSS Section meeting
Alex: Injectors activities on SU. Actually PS straight sections were never aligned. PS alignment on-going, to continue on Sept. and future (97% of sections in switchyard aligned). IPP: How to link beam performance in injectors to Fill number in LHC.
OMC, Tobias: Meeting last week. Discussions to simplify multiturn application. Granularity of kick amplitude of 1% to be improved. Demo of multiturn prepared by OP tomorrow.
Codes: Riccardo's slide on code inventory. Leon comments that tilted solenoid is a strength of SAD and MAD. Alessio comments that Sixtrack has also the advantage of having crystal. Sixtrack Developer documentation is missing. pysixdesk is also existing as alternative under development for sixdesk.
Sixtrack: e-lens work for Sixtrack on-going.
Alessio: sixdesk moving to pysixdesk. Loic's and Michael's development about to be merged.
MADX: Tobias, no bugs reports from the new release. In previous version using radiation imposed particle electron for PTC. Bug in tracking closed orbit treatment to be fixed.
Presentation by Renjun Yang on "Focusing challenges for ATF2 and CLIC". In CLIC a nanometer beam size beam is generated at the IP to maximize luminosity. The optical system has significant aberrations by design and from realistic imperfections. The tuning of a CLIC-like system has been experimentally tested in ATF2 for the last ~5 years via the ultra-low beta* optics. Simulations would expect about a 30nm beam while smallest beam achieved in the experiments was 50nm (in the past for another relaxed optics smallest beam size was 41nm, which remains a world record). The residual 20nm is possibly attributed to position jitters, wakefield effects, unknwon magnetic errors and limitations of instrumentation and operation of the facility. A future ambitious program, ATF3, is aiming to fully understand these limitations among other goals relevant for different projects.
Renjun is finishing his fellow contract at CERN and starting a staff position in SuperKEKB.
As usual next meeting will take place in 2 weeks.
