Abstract:

The TE-MSC-MM Section is responsible for carrying out magnetic measurements to assure the field quality of various accelerator magnets throughout their lifecycle. In order to perform these measurements, our engineers use a wide range of sensors and devices. Different calibration and measurement techniques are combined with data reduction and post-processing. A number of mitigation measures exist to reduce random and systematic uncertainties. Operation errors (gross errors), for example using the wrong calibration data in a measurement campaign, can only be avoided with stringent procedures and management tools, as required in QA standards for measurement labs.

Over the last few years, we have developed a Management and Information System that integrates asset management, database structures, and our measurement software (FFMM) to support our every-day activities. This system increases the traceability, the measurement reliability and the quality of the results, while limiting the administrative overheads to a minimum. In this seminar, we will give an overview of this new Management and Information System, focus on its features and interactions, discuss the challenges in the implementation of such a project, and present the road-map for the future.
