Present: Fernando, Clara, Stefan, Jim, Francisca, Bobby, Frank, Manuel, Poitr and Wayne 1) 3-D Visualisation in Qt Bobby started by reminding people of the functionality of his 3-D visualisation tool which was developed in Java and embedded into PVSS panels via an ActiveX canvass. This means that it can only run on Windows. ATLAS expressed an interest to have the same functionality on Windows and hence Bobby and Piotr, with help from the CMS IGUANA team, have investigated how this could be ported to Qt, taking advantage of IGUANA developments where appropriate, and how much effort would be involved. Piotr presented their ideas and his slides are attached to these minutes. The conclusion was that for someone knowing C++ but who needed to learn about the other the technologies the effort would only be of the order of 3-4 weeks. However, neither Piotr nor Bobby are available to work on this. As this is primarily requested by ATLAS, even though LHCb and CMS would probably use the development later, Wayne asked whether ATLAS could work on this. Jim said that he would discuss this internally in the ATLAS central team. Otherwise this would be added to the list of requests that would be looked at as and when effort would become available. A.o.B. - Installation tool. Fernando noted that discussions had been held in to IT/CO regarding the location of the information required by the installation tool. It has been agreed that thise information, as well as other tools such as the one being developed by our Indian colleagues, would reside in the configuration database. Manuel, Fernando and Piotr have been discussing the information required and will then define the structure. Once this has been done Fernando will base his next implementation on this and hopes to have a new version ready by the end of January. There was then a discussion on synchronising of data between the database and the actual status of instalaltions on the PC. It was agreed that the database should be master for what should be installed and the project for what is actually installed. A consistency check will be made regularly and the project brought to the required state. It was agreed that the installation tool could force installation, i.e. not require an agreement from a user of the project concerned. The question of access control was raised. It was agreed that this should be based on the standard approach, i.e. built into the panel fo the installation tool and using the standard features of Piotr's access control component. Clara raised the issue with upgrading of the DIM manager which would require this to be stopped for installation of the new version. Clara also noted that in 3.6 the order of dpes shown in the PARA module is different from before (now alphabetical) and this has implications for DIM structures. Manuel will look into this. - ROOT Fernando noted that many people were looking at ROOT implementations accessing PVSS data. It was agreed that he do a quick tour of these people to understand the requirements to see if a common development would make sense and whether this could be based on the work already being done in LHCb with the integration of ROOT into PVSS via a Qt EWO.
