Giulia has started on the beam-dump specs - and sees some issues.
The baseline intensity is 25mA.
Giulia showed that the energy spread at the exit of the vanes is then increased by space charge.
This can be halted by cutting the intensity (with a slit or iris), and if done soon after the RFQ, it leads to the best measurement of the energy spread from the RFQ.
The emittance meter slit also can serve as a slit for this reason, but is further downstream.
This new slit was not considered before. Also it would become where most of the beam is dumped (which also means it might need shielding and cooling, which will be a challenge in such a small space.
Our objective is to validate the RFQ. As the emittance meter slit is anyway available and Linac4 has to be able to accept that energy spread, it is not justified as a validation to have this further slit.

Giulia proposed to use one of the compact BCTs straight after the RFQ. In that case the downstream one is on the straight line is not needed.

Giulia proposed a compact BPM, which could give an alternative measurement technique. The justification and specification should be clarified (is it a BPM, or a phase probe?)

What is the working solution layout at the moment is the layout discussed two weeks ago. But it should not be considered ready as frozen for design.

For the beam dump specifications, it is proposed to have an intensity of 30mA (the 27mA we see today, plus a bit of operation margin) while it should be requested to STI what is the impact of allowing 50mA.

Giulia will consider all these for the dump specs.

Karl reported on the skid discussions with Gabor. Gabor thinks the design is not really optimium and wishes to spend a bit more time to assess it and has sent a request for updated values - Karl asks CV nevertheless to keep the interfaces constant.
The skid is used for two circuits on the RFQ, but Suitbert confirmed not for any other devices. Therefore cooling for magnets, klystron etc will be separate.

Building 181
MSC requested a location supervisor to RF, but no other news. This point should be clarified early next year.


Richard will follow up early next year with discussion on the source use for the test stand, including periods and installation time windows.

Suitbert is following up with EPC and Olivier about the schedule for the modulator for the klystron - the date has impact on EPC.

Edgar note he has not received further information from Dominique and will follow up.

At the next meeting we should discuss more on the layout of the zone, Karl will prepare this with Benoit.
