There are some hotels near the university and many around the airport. You can consult your favorite website for rates and location. The cheapest rates can be obtained at www.hotwire.com but it won't let you see the actual hotel until you pay. You can try hotels.com, obitz.com etc. I've found these useful in the past.
There is a courtesy hold for seven double rooms at the Courtyard Miami Airport South. This hotel is near the Miami International Airport. The hold will expire on January the 28th. Hotels Information contact information is:

Please note that a trek across <st1:city><st1:place>Miami</st1:place></st1:city> during rush hour is time consuming. Allow 45 minutes to an hour to get to campus <st1:city><st1:place>Miami Beach</st1:place></st1:city>.
