Tools
This workshop will be held fully online using Microsoft Teams for broadcasting the talks and tutorials and a Discord server for interaction between participants.
You can run MS Teams and Discord either directly in your Browser or the app on your computer / tablet / phone. It is available (for free!) for Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android and Linux (RPM and Debian based packages).
Links to join the talks and the Discord server will be provided to participants via e-mail.
Teams Information
A link to join the Teams meeting will be distributed by e-mail to registered participants the morning of 14. June. All talks will be broadcast using Teams, and live Q&A sessions after talks will take place using Teams. Further questions to the speakers for each session beyond the allotted time can be asked in the dedicated session discord channel.
Special note on GDPR: Due to the way the communication within MS Teams is set-up, the e-mail address and name of each participant will be visible, but restricted to, all other members of the workshop. There is no other possibility to participate online. In case you do not want this, we are sorry, but kindly ask you to withdraw your registration (send an email to the organising committee at demo_ws_oc@eso.org).
Discord information
Registered participants will receive a discord invitation link via e-mail, which will open discord directly in your browser. For a better experience, we recommend that you download discord as an application and this same link can be used to join the server from the app. The interaction on discord will be primarily text-based, however, voice and video channels will also be available for discussion.
Registration
When you arrive in the Discord, you will have access to only #reception and #registration-demo text channels that you can use to register.
In the #registration-demo channel, use the command “$register” followed by firstname / lastname in between double quotes.
Example: $register “Benoit Serra”
Once done, you will be granted rights to all channels of the discord server. If you experience any problems with registration, contact one of the organizers.
Sections in discord
Before and through the workshop, we will provide information and a safe space for you to exchange on detector and instrument related topics.
General
#introductions should be used to briefly introduce yourself and let other participants know who you are and what you are working on.
#plenaries will always link the discord discussion channel for the current session.
Demo 2021
This section of the discord has dedicated channels for the workshop sessions listed in the agenda. Any additional questions you have for speakers beyond the Q&A session should be asked here. Additionally, these channels can be used for discussion of the talks throughout the sessions.
Pyxel
In the Pyxel section, you will be able to reach the maintainers, developers and reporters involved with Pyxel. While text interaction is preferred, You will also find a two person voice channel that can be used for support (vocal and video).
Splinters
What if you have a topic you want to discuss in more detail outside of the sessions? It is possible for any participant to chair ‘splinters’. If you would like a channel created for your topic, you should contact the organizers. If your request is accepted, a dedicated text/vocal channel will be created and this splinter will be advertised to participants. Any interested participant can come discuss your topic with you in this section.
Since the organizers are a limited resource, we will kindly ask the chair of each splinter to give a small summary of the topic after the workshop so that we can share information between all participants.
Help
If you are a bit lost or you need information from the organizers, please contact them through the channel #helpdesk or send us a message.
