I ROC-LA Workshop CERN, October 6th to 8th, 2010

ROC-LA(Regional Operating Center – Latin America: https://roc-la.org) was born in September 30th, 2009, as a joint initiative involving three research institutions in Latin America: the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics (CBPF, Brazil), the Institute of Nuclear Science of UNAM (ICN-UNAM, Mexico) and Universidad de los Andes (Uniandes, Colombia). Latin American groups representing the four experiments at CERN, ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb, have GRID sites currently monitored by the ROC-LA since its foundation.

In addition, other groups pertaining to the physics community, but not necessarily involved in experiments at CERN, as well as from other branches of science, are asking for support to ROC-LA, showing a slow but consistent grow of GRID activities in the region.

The “First ROC-LA Workshop” will be held at CERN, from October 6th to 8th, 2010. It aims to provide an environment to discuss, on a Face-to-Face type meeting, not only the policies and strategies to further disseminate the GRID activities in Latin America, but also to provide a place to discuss about the ROC-LA administrative policies, problems common to the GRID sites and their solutions, etc, among its members. During this workshop, presentations conducted by experts about several aspects of the GRID, middleware and administrative tools, as well as discussions about the computing model of the four LHC-CERN experiments will take place. These presentations aim to introduce the latest status and future plans on the several aspects of the GRID, ranging from administrative tools, middleware and political organization.

We expect also to provide, during the workshop, an adequate atmosphere to strength the collaboration and mutual support among the GRID sites in Latin America.

All the site members are encourage to participate of the workshop, including all the technical and management staff, and user of the GRID sites in ROC-LA.
