CERN-Solid

Discussion on the Community Solid Server (CSS) with belgian company Digita

Europe/Zurich

Description

Participants:
Maria Dimou - CERN
Lauro Vanderborght - https://www.digita.ai/

Purpose:
Lauro, acknowledging Maria's active participation in Solid, and  understanding that CERN will not buy any software products for the CERN-Solid project activity, insisting on open source solutions only, wanted to share news and plans concerning Digita's involvement in the the Community Solid Server (CSS) deployment.

The Brussels-based company Digita has the mission to:

  • Provide consultancy on Solid
  • Build Solid apps with customers (some of the in-house developed products are open source)
  • Participate in Solid-centered research
  • Develop a governance layer for each of its customer organisations (imec, inrupt, the Swedish Public Employment Service), that ensures alignment with Solid principles
  • Facilitate requirements' gathering to make a roadmap for the Community Solid Server (CSS).

Wouter Termont (Solid expert and developer) and Wouter Janssens (CEO of Digita, and setting up a governance of CSS with Ruben Verborgh) both work for Digita.

MSc student Theo Meyer (CERN and IT University of Copenhagen) provided useful input on the keyclock proxy software developed by Digita for interfacing with ID provider software.

As the Solid specifications evolve and as current pod providers (CSS and inrupt's ESS) deviate from the specs, inter-operability and pod migration issues are to be expected and should be addressed.

Please consult CERN-Solid activity index http://solid.cern.ch and contact Maria Dimou for further information on the CERN-Solid collaboration.
