Description

Meeting with Assoc. Prof. Dr Christian Guetl (Graz TU - Technical University) and his PhD student Igor Jakovljevic (also CERN IT/CDA).

The meeting was about student proposals for a possible collaboration. The one listed on http://solid.cern.ch/ - point 5, was extensively discussed. Direct link https://it-student-projects.web.cern.ch/projects/cern-solid-apps-deployment

Steps 1-7 in this specific proposal can be interesting for an MSc student, even if the Solid Community Solid Server (CSS) deployment is not at CERN.

The adapted project aim could be to make a public CSS instance, like https://solidcommunity.net/ is the public instance of the Node Solid Server (NSS).

We decided to lobby in https://gitter.im/cern-solid/community (55 members) and fit an attractive description in the, formally required by the University, template.

A clarification meeting between Maria and her new activity leader, resulted into the clear (and sad) directive to discontinue all CERN involvement in the Solid project, following the massive CERN IT re-organisation announced on 2022/03/21.

Maria and Igor will work and publish a more generic project description in https://gitter.im/cern-solid/community and seek another hosting institute for the benefit of Graz TU.

Collaboration on other common projects will  be soon rediscussed. Maria's new role is "IT Education & Outreach" and Christian's lab (CoDiS Lab Graz) is focusing on digital skills development, e-learning and e-assessment, also applying XR technologies. Christian is also the chair of the IEEE TC-ILE technical working group, which leaves great possibility for collaboration in the future.

Please contact Maria Dimou for further information on the CERN-Solid collaboration.
