Arrival times and catering

We expect the participants to arrive prior to the start of the meeting, for an informal sandwich lunch starting on Monday at 12:00. Lunches and coffee breaks will be provided on campus unless otherwise specified.

If you need an office to hold a meeting let Caterina know when and she can book a small meeting room for you if someone else is already using her office.

Transport from the airport and to the venue

The nearest station to the location of the meeting (Schuster Building, see below) hotel where the PIs are staying (Hyatt Regency, 55 Booth Street West) is Oxford Road, and there are 200 direct trains per day taking about 20'. For others staying in downtown Manchester, there are also frequent direct trains to Piccadilly Station, which is about 20' away on foot from Schuster building. Train is generally faster than bus or taxis.

Bus 43 towards Piccadilly Gardens will also stop at the University Shopping Center (Stop D) and take about 1h.

If you need to use public transport to go to the venue, a single ticket (on and off one bus) costs up to 2 GBP, a day pass costs 5 GBP and a weekly bus pass is 18.50 GBP. Tickets can be bought on board with contactless or cash, or on the app. There are a few apps around so it's easier if you ask the locals on the SMARTHEP Mattermost. The locals also remark that Manchester buses are not like Swiss buses, especially on the weekend.

We will use the Jocelyn Bell Burnell lecture theater for Monday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning  (ground floor, turn right at the entrance doors and go towards the end of the corridor), and the Niels Bohr common room for Tuesday and Thursday (turn right at the entrance doors, then turn left at the small set of stairs and go straight till you see stairs/elevators, then go to the 6th floor and the seminar room will be at the end of the corridor on the left of the elevators).
