Description

~ fortnightly LEP working group meeting - currently joint with CERNLIB community port  working group.

Participants: Ulrich (chair), Geraldo, Andrii, Matthias

CERNLIB:

Andrii reported about the progress and the status of the community CERNLIB. The cmake build infrastructure put in place allowed to switch on all CERNLIB tests which come with the source code, and enable builds across different operating systems and architecture. The CI was briefly discussed which builds artifacts and rpm packages. It would be nice if these could be pushed to CVMFS to lower to borders to evaluate this new version by the experiments.

Licensing was briefly discussed as well. There was a lot of progress on the generator source codes this is reflected by added license files in the source distribution. The licensing investigations around Fluka are still ongoing, and no action is required from our side at this point.

DELPHI:

Evaluation of the community CERNLIB has started, and initial tests look promising. DELPHI rebuilds CERNLIB from source and has a new CI which build the software stack on different OS in 32bit and 64bit on top of it. The last step collects the results from all steps, and creates zip file which is ready for deployment on cvmfs. The DELPHI event display works on 64bit using OpenPHIGS, GPHIGS has been dropped entirely.

OPAL:

Evaluation of the community CERNLIB has started. An issue has been found on CC7 reading RZ files, while it works fine on CS8. Otherwise, initial results look encouraging. Evaluations in OPAL currently focus on 32bit. OpenPHIGS as used by DELPHI may be an option to revive their event display as well.

Action items and news:

  • Check if the CERNLIB 2022 sources could be put alongside with the CERNLIB2006 sources on https://cern.ch/cernlib  [Geraldo]
  • Check if the CERNLIB 2022 CI artifacts  can be automatially pushed to /cvmfs/sft.cern.ch [Geraldo]
  • CERNLIB short writeup is missing on CDS [Ulrich]
  • Matthias reported about issues reading RZ files in CC7 in the OPAL code while it works just fine in CS8 (32bit). It was suggested to open a ticket as this is not observed by DELPHI [Matthias]
  • Circulate link to the ACAT poster draft [Andrii]. Feedback welcome !
