Accommodation

For those staying in college accommodation, the entrance to Grey College is marked (1) on the map below. To reach Grey College from Durham Rail Station, you can either walk (30 minutes) or take a taxi. From Monday to Saturday bus number 42 goes directly from the station to the South Road Colleges bus stop, which can be found at the bottom left of the map, between 8am and 5.30pm.

Meals

All meals will take place in Grey College Dining Hall.

Registration

The registration desk will be located by the entrance to the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Building at (2) on Monday morning.

Lectures

Lectures will be held in L 50 in the Psychology Building. To reach L 50, you can either enter the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Building at (2) and immediately turn right going through a door, or enter the Psychology Building at (3) and turn immediately left. In both cases you will reach L 50 after about 10 metres. 

Tutorials

Tutorials will be held in three tutorial rooms, MCS 3052, 3053 & 3055, on the 3rd floor of the Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science Building. To reach the tutorial rooms, you should enter at (4) and keep climbing stairs until you reach the top! There is also a small lift to your right as you enter the building. As you reach the top of the stairs, the tutorial rooms are behind you on the left of the main corridor, which is known as the Level 3 Street.

Coffee Breaks

The afternoon coffee breaks will be held on the Level 3 Street in the Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science Building.

Poster Session

The poster session will take place in the Grey College JCR during the Drinks Reception on Monday evening. The posters will be taken down on Tuesday morning and then put back up on Wednesday morning, after which they will remain on display for the rest of the week.

If you are presenting a poster, please bring it to Grey College JCR on Monday at 4.30pm.

Social Events

  • The Drinks Reception will take place in Grey College Bar and JCR from 5pm to 7pm on Monday evening.
  • On Wednesday, there will be Bar Evening in Grey College Bar from 7.30pm after dinner.
  • The Banquet will take place in Grey College Dining Hall from 7pm on Friday evening. Note that Grey College Bar will also be open on Friday evening.
  • (1) - Entrance to Grey College (for Grey College Dining Hall, Bar & JCR).
  • (2) - Entrance to Biological and Biomedical Sciences Building (for the registration desk and the lecture room L 50).
  • (3) - Entrance to the Psychology Building (for the lecture room L 50).
  • (4) - Entrance to the Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science Building (for the tutorial rooms MCS 3052, 3053 & 3055 and the Level 3 Street).

Transport

Durham is a small city and it takes about 15 minutes to walk from the conference venue to the city centre, and a further 15 minutes to arrive at the train station. There are also local buses to the conference venue, and well-served taxi ranks can be found at the train and bus stations. Your favourite mapping service should be able to provide you with up-to-date directions and local transport.

Durham is well-connected by train to London, Edinburgh and Newcastle, all of which are served by international airports. More details on how to travel to Durham can be found at https://www.durham.ac.uk/visit-us/.
