Travel, accommodation, and Visa

Travel and Visa

Participants are expected to arrive on the 24th of September to Budapest. 

Please check the visa policy to enter Hungary at https://www.handyvisas.com/visa-policy/hungary/. In the case a selected school participant needs an invitation letter to obtain a Hungarian visa, please contact us by email.

Accommodation

All participants will be accommodated in double rooms at Hotel Ibis Budapest Castle Hill, which is situated close to both training places. The hotel address is Krisztina körút 41-43, 1013 Budapest. 

The rooms are reserved by the organizers and can be occupied from 24 September until the morning of 30 September 2023.

 

How to reach the hotel from the Liszt Ferenc Airport (BUD)

Note that the Airport bus needs a special ticket. Please purchase this from the vending machine before boarding.

At Liszt Ferenc Airport terminal 2, take the Airport bus to the Deák Ferenc tér terminus and find the metro station. Change here to metro line M2 (red line) in the direction of Déli Pályaudvar (terminal station).

 

Local travel to the training sites

The groups will gather at the reception of the Ibis Hotel at 8:00 AM. The travel from the hotel to the two training venues will be by public transportation. 

 

Travel from the Hotel Ibis Budapest Castle Hill to BNC
From the Déli Pályaudvar (Déli railway station) take the BKK (blue) bus number 221 to the terminus Csillebérc, KFKI. https://goo.gl/maps/cmaDU26ujffeRUG1A

At the main gate (entrance) a person will guide you to the training place (building 19, ground floor seminar room). Make sure that you have the same ID card with you which was given in the registration form.

Travel from the Hotel Ibis Budapest Castle Hill to BME
From the Déli Pályaudvar (Déli railway station) take the BKK (yellow) tram, number 17 or 56.

On the Google map above building (BME D épület) should be used as the entrance to the building (BME R épület).  Direction signs will guide you to the seminar room #215, located on the second floor in building R. 

Through the main entrance of building R: When entering Building R of the university, walk up to the first floor on the stairs, which are right in front of you as you enter the building. On the first floor, you have to walk along a long corridor towards the north, parallel to the Danube. When you arrive at the next staircase, climb up to the 2nd floor. The lecture room is located in the corridor behind the door that shows the BME Institute of Nuclear Techniques. Signs will show you the directions.

General travel advice about public transport in Budapest

Tickets can be purchased from Automated Ticket Vending Machines or at the BKK customer service center near the Hotel, at the Déli metro (subway) station or ask the person at the reception for help. It is recommended to buy block tickets of 10 because it is sold at a discount price. The ticket must be validated with yellow automats before entering the subway station or upon boarding the bus or tram. Except for the subway change from one carrier to another one must validate a new ticket. More information is on the web page of the mass transportation company: https://bkk.hu/en/ 
 

Alternatively, electronic tickets can be purchased via the Budapest GO application and shall be validated when boarding by reading a QR code or by NFC placed near the entrance doors of the vehicles. Download for Android or iPhone.
