Accomodation and travel information

General Information:

All the participants will stay at the Centre Paul Langevin in Aussois, where the scientific sessions will take place. We expect all the participants to stay for the entire duration of the workshop (Monday 9am - Wednesday noon), in particular not to arrive on Monday morning (which means missing essentially all the talks of the day) and not to leave on Tuesday afternoon. Priority will in any case be given to participants attending all the sessions given the restricted number of rooms we have this year. [It might be possible to stay somewhere else but it is not very convenient and we will not be able to provide any help to search]

Travel information and situation with trains:

The Centre Paul Langevin is 9km away from the Modane train station.

After the landslide that happened at the end of August 2023, the circulation of trains between Paris, Turin and Milan is suspended (the restart of the circulation is envisioned for the summer 2024). However this does not fundamentally change the transport situation, in comparison with previous years, when we have successfully organized scientific events in the same place.

On the French side, high speed train leaving from Paris(Gare de Lyon) at 11:45 on Sunday  will stop at Saint-Michel-Valloire. Substitution buses reaching mountain resorts are provided (see https://www.sncf-connect.com/statics/pdf/TRSP-DOM/Axe%20Sud%20Est/Affiche%20Maurienne%20en%203%20.pdf), however we advise you to provide us your travel information in time and then we will be able to organize a shuttle from Saint-Michel-Valloire to Aussois on Sunday. On the way back (Wednesday) it should be possible to take a direct bus from Aussois to Saint-Michel-Valloire and connect to the train. More information will be provided later.

On the Italian side, high speed trains ("Frecciarossa", from Trenitalia) reaching Modane train station from Milan and Turin are for the moment cancelled. Trenitalia gives daily updates on the status of the network through their portal (http://www.viaggiatreno.it/infomobilita/index.jsp#). As of now, there is no prediction for the reprise of the circulation. As soon as there are news, we will update with all the details this page.

Therefore, an alternative solution on the Italian side is to take a train from Turin (Porta Nuova station) to Bardonecchia. On Sunday we will organize a shuttle from Bardoneccia to Aussois, please provide us your train information in time for that.  For the way back on Wednesday there is a bus between Bardonecchia and Modane (line 902, travelling monday to saturday, 7 trips per day, 3.60€ - ticket to be purchased on the bus. Here is the timetable: https://www.bardonecchia.it/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/LINEA-902-valido-dal-27.02.2023.pdf ). We will provide more advice for the organization of the back trip later.

Aussois is a ski resort and the workshop takes place in winter. You should then expect winter conditions and the corresponding traffic issues. It therefore makes sense to try to avoid the late trains and to consider arriving in the late morning or early afternoon, to arrive with daylight. The sunset is at 5pm!
