please provide the hardware cost variation for CPU and DISK in the 2023 procurement and the 2024 procurement if the figure is available. A figure “10%” for disk in 2024 means that in 2024 disk cost 10% less than in 2023 in your T1 (or country)

following several suggestions we asked Johannes Elmsheuser for his availability to co-coordinate the DOMA activity, joining Katy Ellis. We are happy to announce that Johannes is available to take the responsibility. We propose his endorsement and welcome comments in the next one week if any.

      In preparation we ask:

      • The experiment to remind what their needs are, at T0 and T1s on top of the 2024 pledge for DISK and TAPE
      • The T0 and T1s to be prepared to comment on what they can realistically provide

The earlier the experiment input is provided the better the sites will be able to prepare. Information in written form would be the most useful so that we are sure we get numbers right.

      Input from ALICE

      Dear Simone,

Considering the high efficiency achieved this year by ALICE and the
performance of LHC, ALICE can collect up to 60 PB of CTF files in 4
weeks of pp collisions. At 3.5% skimming compression, this corresponds
to 2 PB per instance, totaling 4 PB.

ALICE needs to retain an additional 2 PB at T0 and 2 PB at T1 on
spinning disk until the reprocessing of the 2024 skimmed pp CTF files
      is complete (March 2025).

Writing to tape occurs asynchronously, and the 4 PB required tape
space can be requested starting from April 2025.

The total needs of ALICE is therefore an advance on the 2025 pledges of
about 2 PB at Tier 0 and 2 PB at Tier 1 on disk by mid-September, while
the same amount on tape will be needed starting from April 2025. It is
important that some of the pledged tape for 2025 becomes available early
in the computing year (April 2025).

      Thank you,
      cheers,
      Stefano

      Input from LHCb

      Hi Simone,

Here's the LHCb input, as discussed with you a few weeks ago.

As LHCb datataking is going well, we can now estimate the additional
         storage required.

Evaluating tape resources, it seems the pledged values will be
sufficient, both at the Tier-0 and at the Tier-1's.

For disk, we are missing 20 PB in total, divided between the Tier-0
(where we miss ~4 PB) and the our Tier-1's (with missing disk
capacities between 2 and 4 PB, depending on the site).

Please note that we have been receiving some additional diskspace
from the Tier-0 and several LHCb Tier-1's in recent weeks, but we
are still quite a way away from the missing 20 PB.

                   thanks, cheers, Ben & Jan
